"When CD-R prices fell below $2, sales skyrocketed for drives," Parsons said. "We're looking for a similar effect here as prices go down." Parsons added that CD-R discs currently cost around 20 cents and are more or less a replacement for floppy discs. "If you carry that further down the road to recordable DVD and add in the increased capacity, it makes a lot of sense as the next step," Parsons said. DVD discs have a storage capacity of 4.7GB, which is about seven times more than that of a CD. Craig said that consumers have a certain psychological price threshold for all types of products, and manufacturers are getting closer to it as they continue to lower prices.
"Once media is under $5 and drives are under $399, consumers are less likely to be hesitant to buy and manufacturers will begin to reach the mass market," Craig said. Earlier this month, HP and other DVD+RW drive makers announced new second-generation DVD+RW drives that cost around $500 and support DVD+R. HP said that its DVD+RW discs cost around $11, and its DVD+R discs, which will be available in April, will cost around $6.

"I'm not sure if Mr. Hawking knew how close we are to that now in the affordable consumer market," said DeVito, "The Xbox really brings a level of technology into the home that we didn't think could hit the $299 price range in this day and age. But Bill Gates did it, and we are ready to run with it."
Nevertheless, after all that FSAA doom and gloom the Creative Ti4400 is still a winner in my book. It offers far superior framerates over the GeForce 3 series and is well set up to receive the gaming world's latest offerings later in the year. It also offers plenty of entertainment for the "enthusiast" market with it's outstanding overclocking abilities out of the box, and with the constant release of beta detonator drivers the performance can only get better.

Overall, the entire experience has left me very happy. I think that gobe has done a very good job of making an office suite that is 1) cheap 2) effective and 3) powerful without being confusing. This is a a solid package. At the end of the day, when reflecting on how useful and feature-rich this application is, not to mention the fact that I can work quickly and productively despite having been rooted in Microsoft Office for so long, I'm impressed. Gobe likes to think that their team stood back and watched the computing world evolve, and in doing so, they finally emerged with a polished project that shines. They have done an excellent job on this office suite, so much so that I am left wonton for an email client with that Productive touch. I think that an integrated email client could convince many companies to throw out Office altogether.
