Amerikaanse internetproviders, waaronder de grootste DSL aanbieder in de VS, SBC, zijn geïnteresseerd in een nieuwe DSL-standaard. De techniek is in Europa ontwikkeld, waar het net uit de trial fase is. Momenteel wordt het op kleine schaal toegepast door Europese communication carriers. De G.SHDSL technologie kan 2,3Mbit per seconde verwerken en in sommige gevallen zelfs 4,6Mbit. Verder is het mogelijk om verder dan 3 mijl (4,8 kilometer) van de switching-facility nog te kunnen internetten, iets wat bij andere DSL-standaarden niet altijd mogelijk was. Dit maakt het erg geschikt voor de ISP's om het als dienst aan te bieden aan de thuisgebruiker. Toch wordt er niet verwacht dat G.SHDSL ADSL compleet gaat vervangen, aldus C|Net:
"There will always be more lines of ADSL deployed than other DSL technologies," said Jay Fausch, a senior director of marketing at telecom equipment maker Alcatel, which makes both ADSL and S.HDSL equipment.
Fausch says ADSL can receive information at up to 8mbps but can only transmit at a rate of 0.8mbps.
This speed suits the home user, since the usual kinds of traffic sent from homes are e-mails and requests for Web pages, which consume relatively small amounts of bandwidth. The higher "downstream" speed also allows people to more easily receive larger incoming applications like streaming radio, MP3 files and graphics files.
While we doubt it was initially built for gamers, Solarism's LM-1503 seems to be very nice for gaming purposes. The super-high pixel refresh rate allows you to play games without any image blurring or eye strain. Even high-end LCD's from Sony, Viewsonic and NEC can't promise that.
Eink is one of several companies developing new technologies to replace LCDs. Called Electronic Ink, Eink's technology uses microscopic capsules printed onto a surface with circuits inlayed to create a picture. These capsules are filled with magnetic black and white ink, and have transparent electrodes above and below them. Depending on the charge applied to the electrodes, black ink can either be pulled to the top of the capsule, making it appear black, or pulled to the bottom, making it appear white. Another variant of this technology being developed by Xerox uses tiny spheres with one white half and one black half that have opposite magnetic charges. Instead of being pulled to the top or bottom of a microcapsule, the spheres flip to expose one colored side. Both of these technologies mean that electronic paper can be updated just like an LCD.

De berichten zijn inmiddels verwijderd. Lamo claimt dat hij drie weken lang nieuwsberichten heeft kunnen veranderen. De hacker zegt tegen SecurityFocus slechts de fouten in de beveiliging van Yahoo News te hebben willen aantonen. Daarom zou hij ook alleen oude nieuwsberichten hebben veranderd.
"We hadden voor augustus op de opleving gerekend die normaal is voor die periode. Maar die hebben we niet gezien", zo zei financieel directeur Judy Bruner in een reactie op de resultaten. "Bovendien zien we dat vooral de vraag naar onze goedkopere modellen toeneemt."

De kabelbreuken zijn niet de eerste dit jaar. In februari en in maart had men ook al problemen met de kabels tussen de Verenigde Staten en China.
The computer was first unveiled as an engineering sample at the Computex 2000 show in Taipei last year. Since then, the machine has been given a faster processor, more memory, and a larger screen but also got a little larger and heavier.

Support for the MP3Pro by Texas Instruments "is instrumental in helping us expand our reach to portable Internet audio devices and will help to carryover the momentum of MP3 to the more advanced MP3Pro," Henri Linde, vice president of new business, patent and licensing unit for Thomson Multimedia, said in a statement.




According to the agreement, Legend and Gigabyte will inject their motherboard factories in Huiyang and Dongguan respectively into the joint venture. The total investment is estimated to be HK$250 million. Legend and Gigabyte will both hold 50% equity in the joint venture.
Interestingly, in Ulead, the performance delta between the i850 and the P4X266 is less than 1 %. In Caligari TrueSpace 4.2, the P4X266 takes a solid 13% lead over the i850. This should be enough information to base a purchase decision on. If cost factors are taken into account, the situation looks even worse for either of the Intel chipset-based boards. If one counts the pennies, er, $$, the final equation for a 2.0 GHz P4 / i850 / Rambus system shows approximately $1000 for the barebones. The Brookdale in a similar speed stepping still runs at about $850 even VIA's solution burns a minimum of $750-800 hole in the wallet. These numbers are for CPU, mainboard and memory only. Ironically, about the same level of performance can be purchased elsewhere for only a fraction of the cost.
The suit, filed in the Federal District Court for the Western Division of Texas (Austin Division), the home of Centaur's headquarters, alleges that Intel Pentium 4 microprocessors infringe, contribute to the infringement of, or induce others to infringe VIA and Centaur's U.S. Patent Number 6,253,311 (the '311 Patent). This patent, which is jointly owned by VIA and Centaur, deals with the different formats in which numeric data may be stored in a microprocessor.
