NVIDIA will position its Crush as a replacement to the ordinary chipset and a high-performance graphics card for an Athlon platform. In other words, the company will count on their ability to convince the customers to buy the “all-in-one” nForce based mainboard instead of the mainboard and a high-performance graphics accelerator, i.e. they will claim that an nForce 440 based mainboard is a better buy than a DDR Socket A mainboard + GeForce2 MX based card. It will be better not only in terms of price but also in terms of performance that is why this strategy has all chances to be a success. It should be especially liked by the OEM’s, as the nForce chipsets will save them time and trouble when doing their job.
We should also point out that two more chipsets from the nForce family, which are currently under development, will also contribute to NVIDIA’s moving into the chipset market. They are Crush17 and Crush18. According to NVIDIA’s roadmap, their mass production is scheduled for late Q1’02. By the way, the samples of this couple will be available in late Q4’01 - early Q1’02 already. Crush17 and Crush18 will feature an even better graphics core and memory controller than their Crush11 and Crus12 predecessors.
