At Comdex/Fall in Las Vegas, Corel CEO Derek Burney maintained that Corel was not abandoning Linux, even though Corel's original Linux champion, former CEO Michael Cowpland, resigned from the company in August.
In fact, Burney said that Corel was working on new ways to package its desktop-oriented Linux distribution, which is based on Debian Linux.
Some industry watchers, however, predicted that Corel would dump Linux as soon as Cowpland exited. They said that the software maker -- which cut 320 jobs this summer to save money -- needed cash more than it needed Linux.
"In the broad sense, our concern was that the merger of these two powerful companies would deny to competitors access to this amazing new broadband technology," said Robert Pitofsky, chairman of the FTC, in a statement. "This order is intended to ensure that this new medium, characterized by openness, diversity and freedom, will not be closed down as a result of this merger."

Different doesn't mean worse; certainly using an optical mouse felt strange at first, but then changing any computer device results in a certain amount of unfamiliarity. The first time I used a natural keyboard it seemed strange, but after a few weeks of use, I wouldn't go back. The same is true of the optical MouseMan. Technologically, is it superior to previous generations of mice? It's definitely lighter, lower maintenance and definitely better looking than earlier editions of the Logitech MouseMan wheel family.

"We're focusing on digital media at Microsoft in a big way because it brings excitement to consumers and real economic benefits to businesses," Ballmer said. "The new technologies we're unveiling today create opportunities for everyone in the industry to deliver more efficient, effective and exciting solutions for digital media."
On the vocal side, the 4060M were gentle to the ears even though the volume was cranked up to the max. Most speakers would just begin to produce distorted audio at that level, but the 4060M carried it off without much difficulty. The 4060M was especially well suited to pop music since it was made to deliver exciting bass. You just can't help tapping your feet to the beat of Ricky Martin's "She Bangs". I guess "MidiLand Bangs" would be a more appropriate title.
If you want the fastest CD-ROM drive on the planet, the Kenwood 72x CD-ROM is definitely the only choice. However, the way the product is marketed can be a bit misleading, as my tests have shown. Although quite speedy, the 72x does not perform like a 100x max drive as Kenwood states. It seems to me that this drive is about on par with a 72x max CD-ROM. By all means, this certainly isn't slow, but it's not as fast as Kenwood would have you believe.

Microsoft's hardware department have a winner again in their hands. Even years ago, whenever someone mentions a Microsoft mouse, everyone would go... "OOooooo". Microsoft has always been known for its quality. Take their Natural Keyboard or Sidewinder range of flight sticks for instance. All are of high quality and usually have cutting edge technology.
