Our reliable sources in Taiwan told us that VIA is going to introduce a new VT1221 chip, which is none other but a USB 2.0 controller. The engineering samples of the new chip will be shipped out to the mainboard manufacturers in Q1 2001. Unfortunately, we don’t have any idea about the mass production time frame, however, we doubt that it will be delayed longer than till Q2 2001. These chips are most likely to go to those mainboard makers who decide to add the support of new USB standard to their products before VT8235 and VT8237, which should have the integrated USB 2.0 feature, are out.
