Bij VIAHardware.com heeft men eens een grondige blik geworpen op de K7VTA Pro, Soyo's nieuwste Socket A moederbord gebaseerd op de VIA KT133A chipset. Dit plankje bezit een standaard 1/5/1 ISA/PCI/AGP layout zonder veel toeters of bellen. Verder is er de mogelijkheid om de multiplier te wijzigen via dipswitches.
We zijn nu onderhand al wel bekend met de nieuwe mogelijkheden tot overclocking die de KT133A chipset met zijn ondersteuning van een 133MHz FSB biedt, en ook hier is dat weer duidelijk te zien: een unlocked Athlon 950MHz draait zonder problemen op een FSB van 150MHz, zij het met een verlaagde multiplier (7,5). In de benchmarks blijkt dat het moederbord, zoals te verwachten, niet veel sneller of langzamer is dan de andere KT133A mobo's; het bord presteert nagenoeg gelijk aan de Abit KT7A. Bovendien bleek deze plank tijdens alle testen ook nog eens uiterst stabiel. Hoewel er dus niets mis is met dit moederbord, is de conclusie toch enigszins gematigd, omdat de concurrenten borden met meer mogelijkheden voor een gelijke prijs maken:
The downside to the K7VTA Pro is the competition. We have already claimed two Editor Choice Awards for the VIA KT133A chipset, the Abit KT7A RAID and the IWill KK266. Without having an onboard RAID controller, Soyo really should have added a 6th PCI slot to the board. The stability theory about having the DIP swithces on the motherboard, instead of the bios, makes some sense, but for now for ease of use, these options really should be added in the bios to keep up with current generation motherboards. The Voice Doctor, though a good idea, probably should be scratched or improved, as it just doesn't seem to work very well. Finally with a price around $150, Soyo may have a hard time selling the board to users because of once again, the competition. Without the added features of a 6th PCI slot and onboard RAID, along with the lack of an overclocking bios, the $150 price tag may be a little steep.

There is no question that the Mobility Radeon is a step up from the current notebook solutions. Offering not only more power, but smarter use of the power, the Mobility Radeon will finally start bringing 3D to the notebook market. However, the question of whether the Mobility Radeon can take on NVIDIA's GeForce2 Go still stands.

The satellites themselves were very clear and robust, and the 12 watts per channel proved to be a bit deceiving as the system was very loud at full volume, even in a large room. Everything we listened to on the system, from games like Giants: Citizen Kabuto and Sacrifice, to DVDs, to the aforementioned Beastie Boys CD, was extremely rich and vibrant, and the system stayed crystal clear and free of distortion even when I was playing at full volume, which not only gave me a headache, but pissed off a lot of my fellow editors as well.
