Even nadat ik het verhaal van de KT133 problemen in de nieuwsgroep voor Abit moederborden had gepost, kreeg ik een e-mail van een werknemer van Abit in Taiwan:

This bug is all new to me. As far as I know KA7 and KT7 use a GAL to switch buster mastering sigals for extraordinary PCI slots, there shouldn't be any busmaster sharing issue.

Ook de poster van het originele bericht heeft e-mails gekregen van Abit die zeggen dat de PCI busmastering bug niet bestaat. Volgens Abit liggen de problemen bij de drivers van de PCI kaarten. Ook zeggen ze contact op te nemen met Abit in Europa om verhaal te halen. Voor het hele verhaal moet je de laatste 2 posts op dit forum lezen. Laat dit een les zijn voor iedereen: ga niet te snel in op geruchten .

IBM maakt vandaag bekend dat zij 's werelds scherpste monitor heeft geleverd aan het U.S. Department of Energy. Deze 22" monitor heeft 200 pixels per inch en een totaal van 9 miljoen pixels. Geschat wordt dat deze monitor pas in 2010 geschikt is voor massaproductie. Tot die tijd moeten we het dus nog met onze huidige beeldschermen doen die zo'n 12 keer minder scherp zijn.

The U.S. Department of Energy's Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in California is the first customer, and IBM plans to ship to other customers in 2001. It also plans to license the patented technologies to other manufacturers.

The technology could make its way into displays for laptops, desktops, handhelds and other computing devices.

"When IBM showed a prototype of this technology in 1998, many in the industry predicted this display wouldn't be ready for mass production until at least 2010," said Ross Young, president of Display Search, a display market research firm in Austin. "The technology can change the way computers are used in a wide range of areas where extremely high-resolution images are required, and I am impressed that IBM is able to produce them today."

The Livermore Lab will use the displays to study the operation and aging of nuclear weapons using 3-D model simulations produced by using the world's fastest supercomputer -- the ASCI White machine IBM shipped to the lab in July. It is expected to receive about 10 more of the displays by mid-2001 to further this research.

IBM has worked since 1995 on the new display technology in its research labs in Yorktown Heights, N.Y., and Yamato, Japan. The new active matrix liquid crystal display is based on research that allowed the IBM team to use aluminum instead of molybdenum and tungsten, metals traditionally used in displays.

Thomas Pabst himself heeft vandaag een uitgebreide review online gemikt van de Creative Nomad Jukebox 6GB portable MP3 speler. Ondanks de hoge prijs lijkt hij errug onder de indruk te zijn van het apparaat, op een paar punten na tenminste. Interessant in de review is overigens de uitleg om de ingebouwde 6GB Fujistu drive te vervangen door een ander exemplaar, in zijn geval een 12GB IBM schijf. Dit blijkt zonder al te veel moeite uitvoerbaar te zijn waardoor je pas écht een gigantische opslagcapaciteit kunt creëren . Hieronder heb je eenhap Tom's conclusie:

For me Creative's Nomad Jukebox is the gadget of the year. It is not exactly cheap, but one of the few items that are really worth their money. Regardless if you want to listen to music on the beach, in your car or on your home stereo system, the Nomad Jukebox gives you the chance to do all that while choosing from at least 100 hours of music. Just imagine how much space 100 CDs would take and then take another look at the little Nomad Jukebox. It's simply fantastic (and I think I have never ever said that about any product before!). The real kick however is the unwanted upgrade path that Creative gave its big MP3-player. It is really simple to equip the Jukebox with a larger hard drive. 20 GB of music equals over 400 CD albums!! Imagine carrying that much music around with you wherever you go!

Still it wouldn't be a typical Tom-review if there weren't at least some things that I have to criticize.

• Creative needs to get the Windows 2000 bug out of its Playcenter2 software and the upload of play lists could be made a lot easier and more convenient as well.
• An IEEE 1394 (FireWire) version of the Jukebox would be very helpful too, because it simply takes too long to load the Jukebox.
• I would also appreciate if Creative would unlock the transfer of files from the Jukebox to the computer. I can't see any legal reason against that.
• Once in a while the Jukebox crashes, especially while you are uploading files. In this case you either need to cut the power supply (remove batteries) or press the little RESET-button. I hope that future firmware for the Jukebox will be less buggy.
• Finally I'm asking for headphones that are adequate to the quality of MP3. The headphone output of the Jukebox should be higher than those few 100 mW also.

Hexus.net deed bij Abit navraag over de release van de Abit VP6 en kreeg te horen dat de levering van dit plankje met enkele weken is vertraagd door in probleem in de Softmenu III zachtwaar. Woensdag zijn de borden in productie gegaan en over 3 tot 4 weken liggen ze volgens Abit in de winkel:

Right Ive just spoken to Abit in Taiwan, The board is going in to production tommorow (8th), and it will be going through testing for FAE approval testing and then they will be sending it on to Tech sites to look at within 2 weeks, after which then we will see it on the shelf within 3 weeks a month maximum! The problem has been down to CPU Softmenu III. But all problems are gone now!

Het gaat buitengewoon goed met nVidia en dat blijkt ook uit de financiële resultaten voor het derde kwartaal van 2000, die vandaag bekend werden gemaakt. Ten opzichte van Q3'99 explodeerde de omzet met 104% naar 198,2 miljoen dollar. De netto winst bedroeg $28,1 miljoen, bijna drie keer zoveel als de $10,6 miljoen van een jaar geleden. nVidia verwacht in de toekomst verder te groeien door de introductie van nieuwe produkten, zoals de super geïntegreerde MCP chipset:

"Our third quarter highlights the continued execution of our core strategy," stated Jen-Hsun Huang, president and CEO of Nvidia, Santa Clara, Calif. "The rapid adoption of our top-to-bottom family of GPUs by the world's leading OEMs and system builders is driving our market share gains. Electronic Buyers' News meldt dat Samsung is begonnen met de levering van DDR DIMMs voor high-end servers. Vijf modules met een capaciteit van 64 tot 256MB werden gevalideerd voor de PC2100 spec met een datarate van 266MHz.

Samsung verwacht dat de DDR reepjes in het voorjaar van 2001 in high-end desktops gebruikt zullen worden. De eerste AMD 760, VIA Apollo Pro266 en ALi MAGiK1 mobo's komen weliswaar volgende maand op de markt, maar het duurt altijd wat langer voordat de grote OEMs hun product line-up hebben ververst. Bovendien moet de levering van DDR DIMMs eerst op gang komen en dat probleem ziet Samsung blijkbaar pas in de lente van 2001 opgelost worden. Wat betreft de prijs weet Samsung te vertellen dat zij een premium van 30% op de DDR DIMMetjes vangen. Tegen het eind van volgend jaar moet het prijsverschil met SDR SDRAM teruggebracht zijn tot 10%:

Five Samsung modules, ranging in density from 64 to 256 Mbytes were validated at the full 266-MHz rate, according to Mueez Deen, director of DRAM marketing for Samsung in San Jose. AMD, Sunnyvale, Calif., also validated 256-Mbyte modules from Infineon and NEC Electroincs, rated for 266- and 200-MHz, respectively.

Samsung has already begun shipping the modules into high-end servers, but the PC space was held up awaiting a compatible chipset. "This opens the door for PC OEMs to start incorporating DDR designs into their plans as they go into thespring refresh season," Deen said.

Het Britse Eurogamer komt met het nieuws dat er bij de lancering van de PlayStation 2 in Europa een nog groter tekort zal zijn dan verwacht. Voor de Britse markt zijn bij de introductie op 24 november maar 165.000 exemplaren gereserveerd, terwijl eerder het aantal van 200.000 werd genoemd. Ook voor de rest van de Europese markt zullen minder exemplaren beschikbaar zijn. Omdat de Europese Commissie een invoerheffing overweegt, zal de prijs ook nog een stukje hoger worden dan verwacht.

The international launch of the PlayStation 2 has proven to be something of a disaster for Sony, and almost everything that could go wrong has gone wrong. In the USA the initial allocation of consoles was slashed from a million to just 500,000, resulting in fights breaking out at some stores as the new system sold out within hours of its release, and the console changing hands on auction sites like eBay for five or ten times the usual retail price. Now things are starting to look grim for the European launch, with the UK's allocation of 200,000 consoles which were due between November 24th and Christmas now cut to 165,000. It's possible that the units are merely being shifted around within Europe, but it seems rather more likely that this is due to further supply shortages, and that as a result the allocation for the rest of Europe may drop as well.

[...] And things just keep getting worse for Sony. Another report in CTW suggests that the European Commission will be trying to levy an additional 2.2% import duty on the PlayStation 2, which is already over-priced in much of Europe compared to the US and Japan.

Het verzoek tot uitstellen van de uitgifte van particuliere domeinnamen door het CDA, is door minister Van Boxtel genegeerd. Tweede Karmerlid Joop Wijn van het CDA vindt dat de uitgifte van de gewone domeinnamen nu al voor problemen zorgt. De chaos zou nog groter worden wanneer de particuliere domeinnamen daar vanaf 15 november bij komen. Net zoals bijna 35% van de tweakers.net-bezoekers vindt ook VVD'er Cherribi het nummer dat bij de domeinnaam komt 'verminking' en 'verkrachting' van de domeinnaam:

De toevoeging van drie cijfers is volgens de Stichting Internet Domeinregistratie Nederland (SIDN) noodzakelijk. Er zijn meer mensen met dezelfde achternaam en iedereen moet een kans krijgen. De VVD'er stelde voor een commissie in te stellen die de domeinnamen gaat controleren op geschiktheid.

Volgens Van Boxtel (Informatietechnologie) gaat de toewijzing van domeinnamen vanaf 15 november gewoon van start.

Wie regelmatig bij Pricewatch kijkt zal het al gemerkt hebben. De SDRAM prijzen zijn lager dan ooit. Een reepje van 128Mb PC133 RAM kost nu nog maar 189 gulden! Niet lang geleden was dat nog zo'n 400 gulden. Analisten geven de langzame groei in de PC markt de schuld. In het artikel staat niet hoe lang deze daling nog zal duren. Als je van plan was nog eens wat extra geheugen te kopen kun je dat dus beter maar nu doen .

WASHINGTON -- Mainstream synchronous DRAM prices today continued their spot-market free fall, with workhorse memory chips hitting their lowest prices ever.

Industry reports show PC133 8-by-8 64-megabit SDRAMs plunging below $3.50 on Asian spot markets and PC100 8-by-16 128-Mbit chips falling to $9.80. The 8-by-8 64-Mbits were slightly higher, at $3.85 to $3.90, on U.S. commodity markets.

[...]Analysts and DRAM suppliers blamed a slowing rate of PC growth, which was both curtailing new customer orders and reducing the previous inventory buildup into the spot market. The continuing drop in 128-Mbit SDRAMs saw these chips this week selling below the price that 64-Mbits commanded only a few months ago.

InnoVision komt met een nieuwe kaart die geschikt is voor mensen die digitale videobeelden willen bewerken, maar die geen computer met de benodigde aansluiting hebben. De DV2000 heet niet voor niets "all-in-one", je krijgt namelijk een IEEE 1394 FireWire controller met drie poorten, een USB controller met twee poorten en een ATA-100 RAID controller op 1 kaart samengeprakt. Verder wordt hij Ulead MediaStudio Pro 6.0 meegeleverd. Wat het kaartje gaat kosten is nog niet bekend, maar het is een makkelijke en PCI-slots besparende oplossing, zelfs voor mensen die geen DV camera bezitten:

Webwereld komt met het nieuws dat de fabrikanten van DVD recorders het niet eens kunnen worden over een standaard. De DVD recorder zou op termijn de huidige videorecorder moeten vervangen. Net als bij de ontwikkeling van de videorecorder, komen de fabrikanten ook nu weer allemaal met verschillende standaarden:

Panasonic heeft in augustus een DVD-recorder gelanceerd in de VS. Het apparaat kost op dit moment nog 4000 dollar. Pioneer heeft aangekondigd binnenkort met een recorder op de Amerikaanse markt te verschijnen.

Maar de techniek die deze twee fabrikanten gebruiken voor het opnemen verschilt van elkaar. Dat maakt de twee systemen niet uitwisselbaar. Net als met Betamax, VCC en VHS in het verleden. Om de verwarring compleet te maken: Ook Philips komt volgend jaar met een recorder op de markt en de Nederlandse fabrikant maakt gebruik van weer een andere techniek.

Tot slot is er nog een vierde techniek, waarbij DVD-schijfjes eenmalig beschreven kunnen worden. En juist die laatste techniek wekt veel sympathie op bij veel fabrikanten. Opvallend, want als je een DVD-schijfje slechts één keer kan beschrijven, is de DVD-recorder niet echt een bedreiging voor de videorecorder.

Ondanks dat IBM en Compaq Transmeta keihard lieten vallen is er nu toch een klein succesje. News.com meldt dat Casio volgend jaar een notebook met Crusoe chip op de Japanse markt brengt. Deze notebook zal volgende week geintroduceerd worden op de Comdex.

While Casio is not one of the world's largest notebook manufacturers, the deal marks another design win for the chip start-up. Transmeta designs chips that compete with processors from Intel but consume less power than standard Pentium IIIs or Celerons.

[...] Like Sony, Casio is using the Crusoe chip in a "subnotebook." As the name connotes, subnotebooks are generally much smaller than regular notebooks. The screen on Casio's Fiva notebook containing a Crusoe chip measures 8.4 inches.

"Casio reported that the system has a battery life of between six to nine hours, which is impressive for a slim design of this type and indicates that the Crusoe design can dramatically increase battery life within very small form factor notebooks," ARS wrote in an analyst bulletin.

So far, all of Transmeta's notebook wins have been with Japanese manufacturers. Except for Sony, all of these companies are selling their products in Asia.

Microsoft kondigt in dit persbericht aan dat de nieuwste DirectX vanaf zaterdag ook officieel neer te halen is, en wel vanaf de DirectX site. Dit geheel zal te downloaden zijn vanaf zaterdag 11 november, 1 minuut over 9 's ochtends Nederlandse tijd vanaf de DirectX site. Met dank aan een aantal mensen die in de nieuwsqueue ons opmerkzaam maakten dat DirectX 8.0 uit was.

Amerikaanse Soldaten gaan wearable computers gebruiken, die waarschijnlijk vanaf de volgende versie worden uitgerust met Transmeta's Crusoe processor, vanwege de lage stroomconsumptie. De performance is nog steeds goed genoeg voor deze toepassingen. Deze wearables worden gemaakt door ViA Inc.

Following on its successful initial public offering, upstart computer-chip maker Transmeta Corp. (TMTA) on Thursday is expected to announce that computer maker ViA Inc. will use its low-power Crusoe processor in a wearable computer it plans to produce.

ViA said that the first versions of its wearable PC are now being used by the U.S. Army Military Police in tests at Fort Polk, La., and elsewhere. The Crusoe chip will be used in the next iteration of the wearable PC.

Net als videokaart-collega nVidia stort ook ATi zich op de markt voor moederbord-chipsets. Al eerder was bekend dat ALI een grafische core van ATi ging meebakken in haar eigen northbridge chips. Nu blijkt dat ATi zelf ook een northbridge met ingebouwde graphics heeft ontwikkeld die moet gaan cocurreren met Intel's i810(E) en i815(E) en met SIS' 630 chipset.

De nieuwe chipset (genaamd S1-370 TL) is dan ook bedoeld voor Slot 1 en Socket 370 moederborden. Hier heb je alvast wat belangrijke specs:

• 66/100/133 MHz FSB
  
• ALi M1535D of M1543 southbridge
  
• Max. 1 Gb PC66/100/133 SDRam
  
• 33 MHz PCI 2.2 compliant bus

Opvallend ten opzichte van de concurrentie is dat de meegebakken grafische chip voorzien is van hardwarematige T&L (Transform en Lighting), net zoals de GeForce serie van nVidia en ATi's eigen Radeon. Het is niet onwaarschijnlijk dat er een flinke portie Radeon techniek is gebruikt bij de ontwikkeling van de S1-370 TL. De grafische chip is goed voor maximaal 12.5 miljoen polygonen per seconde en heeft een fillrate van meer dan 330 MPixels per seconde. Dat is ongeveer op het niveau van de TNT2 Ultra. Geen bomenontwortelende prestaties, maar voor een geïntegreerde grafische kaart behoorlijk hoog:

Wanneer je de nieuwe chipset daadwerkelijk in de winkel kunt krijgen is op dit moment nog niet bekend.

Bij CorsairMicro is men niet op het achterhoofd gevallen, Don Liebermann en collega's 'vermommen' zich af en toe als 'The RAM guy' om uitleg te geven over geheugen issues. Welnu men vond het blijkbaar tijd om uitleg te geven over de verschillen tussen DIMMs met een CAS latency van 2 of 3 cycles. Zie hieronder een stukje uit de tekst:

So, the bottom line is, moving from CAS-3 to CAS-2 will offer a percentage performance increase in the low single digits for most applications. Programs which are known to be memory intensive (you gamers might know of some...) will see the best improvement.

The other thing to keep in mind is that CAS-2 memory will run FASTER ( some review sites have taken it to 160MHz!) than CAS-3 memory. So, if you're thinking of overclocking your system (now or in the future), CAS-2 is your best bet for speed and stability.

So, the Ram Guy sais...

Buy CAS-2 if [1] you want to wring the last bit of performance out of your system, or [2] you're thinking of overclocking, either now or in the future, or [3] it costs the same as CAS-3, which it sometimes does...

Otherwise, CAS-3 memory should meet your requirements.

Wel grappig is dat er dus ook duidelijk wordt gesproken over overklokken, men is zich er zeer goed van bewust dat ze in de overklokkersmarkt een goede naam hebben en dat ze hier dus eens op in moeten spelen. Welnu dat hebben ze gedaan, niet alleen door dit stukje uitleg, maar ook door reviewers gemakkelijk te voorzien van testsamples. Hetzelfde geld overigens voor Mushkin, het werkt natuurlijk altijd prettig als je niet zo heel veel moeite hoeft te doen om een reepje te bemachtigen . HlpDsK submitte deze handige tip.

Wat je natuurlijk nooit moet doen is 'vieze plaatjes' op de computer op je werk bewaren. Het is dan ook een beetje vreemd dat werknemers van de Marine in Den Helder precies dat hebben gedaan. Men merkte daar dat het netwerk steeds langzamer werd. Na wat onderzoek bleek de grote hoeveelheid 'privé-programma's' de oorzaak. "De inhoud daarvan is even verrassend als teleurstellend", aldus de algemeen-directeur. Bij geconstateerde overtredingen volgen nu strafmaatregelen.

Door alle privé-programma's die de marinemensen op hun werkstations hadden ingevoerd, begon het Windows-systeem van het marinebedrijf in Den Helder in de loop van dit jaar steeds trager te draaien. Dit leidde tot een klachtenstroom, waarna de staf strenge maatregelen heeft genomen.

[...]Bronnen bij de marine melden dat er onder meer een grote hoeveelheid pornografische afbeeldingen is opgespoord. Hoewel de directeur van het marinebedrijf de blootplaatjes niet met name noemt, refereert hij er in zijn algemene bekendmaking wel aan: "De gegevens in het netwerk en op een groot aantal werkstations zijn in meerdere opzichten ernstig vervuild."

De staf van het marinebedrijf heeft gekozen voor een lik-op-stukbeleidom het computerbestand blijvend schoon te houden. Marsman: "Het bureau informatievoorziening mag ongewenste gegevens op afstand verwijderen. Bij geconstateerde overtredingen volgen strafmaatregelen. Bij herhaalde overtredingen wordt de zwaarste sanctie, disciplinair strafontslag, overwogen."

CDRInfo heeft zojuist een review gepost van de nieuwe Yamaha CRW2100E, een IDE cd-rewriter met een erg relaxte snelheid van 16/10/40. De 16x write en 10x rewrite snelheden zijn wel wat misleidend omdat er geschreven wordt dmv de CAV methode. Dit heeft als gevolg dat er niet met constante snelheid gefikt wordt, maar de snelheid na verloop van tijd pas maximaal is. Uit de testen bleek dat dit bij CD-R's niet zo'n grote impact had; de gemiddelde brandsnelheid was daar 15,67 speed. Helaas waren de CD-RW (10x CAV) erg teleurstellend te noemen, vergelijkbare 10x herschrijvers waren tot wel 30% sneller. Een bijkomend nadeel van de CRW2100E is het ontbreken van een anti-bufferunderrun techniek waardoor de 8MB buffer het enige vangnet is. In meeste gevallen bleek dit echter voldoende, mits de gebruiker niet al te heftig gaat multitasken tijdens het brandproces. Hieronder heb je wat stukken uit de test:

Verdict of CDR Results:
The Yamaha CRW2100E performed very well in most of our CDR Tests. The drive supports 16x-writing speed, which even thought is not full 16x (15.67x average), works very good. The 8mb buffer and the proper software will generally protect you from buffer underruns. Don't expect miracles. With normal use (Internet Surfing, Word, Excel) the drive will wring at 16x without any problems. Problems will appear when you start opening many applications. If they also use the HD very much you will probably get a coaster. The drive doesn't seem to support DAO-RAW even Yamaha insists on the opposite. Last the drive supports overburning and goes only up to 89mins as most the other drives do.

Verdict of CDR-W Results:
The Yamaha CRW2100E is not the best choice for RW writing. Even though the drive supports the new HS RW writing mode, it misses to support the higher (10x) writing speed of it. The competition supports 10x writing and CRW2100E cannot have any chance against it. Even in the packet-writing test, which Yamaha supposed to support 10x, the speed is not competitive. It is actually 4x and increases to 10x at the end of the disc. That is probably why the results (4.96x writing) were very bad. The competition is nearly 30% faster.

The Yamaha CRW2100E is a very interesting drive from many aspects. It is the first drive that supports 16x writing speed and 40x reading speed. Those two features are the best weapons against the hard competition from other manufacturers. However there are some features, which don't help the drive to claim the title of the best recorder around. The lack of 10x writing speed and of any anti-coaster technology is what really you will miss from the drive. There is also a issue with DAO-RAW writing mode but we will leave it out since by the time we write those lines it is unclear if the drive supports or not it... We feel that the SCSI model (CRW2100S) probably would fit better to our needs and will work better with low end powered computers.

Ace's Hardware heeft een samenvattend geheel geschreven van de AMD Analyst Conference. Het lijkt erop dat we iets langer moeten wachten op de 1,5GHz Athlon: in plaats van een release in januari komt hij pas in het tweede kwartaal. De Palomino (desktop Athlon met Mustang core) is nog steeds op schema voor een release in het eerste kwartaal van 2001, verwacht nog een aankondiging voor het einde van dit jaar. De Morgan (Duron-Mustang) komt zoals verwacht pas na de Palomino op de markt, ergens in Q2.

Het slechte nieuws heeft verder betrekking op de Mustang zelf, de chip die ook wel Athlon Ultra genoemd zou worden. Er zijn namelijk sterke aanwijzingen dat deze server CPU is gecancelled ivm met de vroegere release van de Clawhammer, de low-end versie van de x86-64 based Sledgehammer:

The missing element to all of this is Mustang itself, or perhaps Athlon Ultra. Lately, rumors have been flying that the server-variant of Mustang has been canceled in favor of the company's Sledgehammer processor, implementing x86-64. Indeed, there was no information on the future of this chip, and with its expected introduction originally planned for November, there may be some truth to the rumors.

As for x86-64, two versions are planned, codenamed Clawhammer and Sledgehammer. Clawhammer, the low-end version, may begin production in Q4 of 2001 on AMD's 0.13-micron process. Sledgehammer will begin production in the second quarter of 2002. AMD's 0.13-micron process itself is expected to come online by the fourth quarter of next year, using Silicon-On-Insulator (SOI).

Ace's Hardware meldt in dit bericht dat chipbakkers ALi en SiS door collega VIA beschuldigd worden van het op de markt brengen van buggy DDR chipsets. De twee zouden namelijk niet AMD's chipset design guidelines volgen waardoor instabiliteits problemen optreden bij snellere CPU's. ALi heeft hierop reageert met het argument dat het probleem niet bij hun, maar bij de mobo-fabrikanten zelf ligt. SiS heeft toegegeven dat er nog steeds bugfixing aan de gang is maar dit niet zal leiden tot vertragingingen. Beide fabrikanten verwachten deze maand nog te starten met de productie. Desondanks zijn Asus, MSI en Gigabyte niet denderend enthousiast over ALi en SiS DDR chipsets:

AMD is currently testing Athlon DDR chipsets from both ALi and SiS, and certification is expected to be complete early next year. The top three motherboard makers, namely Asus, MSI, and Gigabyte, reportedly reveal that after much effort, motherboards based on ALI and SiS DDR chipsets are not stable enough yet. Indeed, "perhaps a lack of experience" was cited as the reason that those chipsets are instable.

Interestingly, there's also been a recent post to our Technical Message Board regarding some reported problems with SiS730S:

According to AMD athlon System Bus Design Guide's recommendation, to ensure optimal current return path, S2K Pad rings need to include decoupling from VccCore to Vss, i.e. each S2K signal must be adjacent to a VTERM (CPU Core Power) signal or a GND (Ground) signal in the S2K quadrant.

Figure shown (as attached) is indicating that SiS730S is not following such recommendation, which could cause poor signal quality.

I am worrying that this issue will generate bigger problem due to instability of signaling, especially if the CPU signal sent to SiS730S is also unstable (either too strong or too fast).

Under system tests, system uses SiS730S might encounter system crashes especially when is tested under different CPU host frequencies and clock ratio.

De mannen van GamePC hebben een review geschreven over de Lian Li PC-60 kast. Deze kast is evenals de Coolermaster ATC serie volledig gemaakt van aluminium waardoor hij flink geprijsd is. Aan de voorkant is hij bij de interne 3.5" bays voorzien van een tweetal 80mm fans die afhankelijk van hoe snel je ze laat draaien (je kan ze op drie standen zetten) een flinke hoeveelheid lucht in de kast kunnen pompen. Aan de achterkant wordt de lucht naar buiten gewerkt door middel van de voeding en een extra fan. Dit blijkt een goede combinatie te zijn; de kast weet in alle tests maar net iets lager te scoren als de Coolermaster ATC-200. Een goede kast dus die er ook nog leuk uitziet, maar waarschijnlijk zullen de voordelen voor de meeste mensen toch niet opwegen tegen de hoge prijs:
