The quality of the casing and the lack of a power switch were a little disappointing, but on the latter point I know Antec are intrducing power switches to their range this month. Why they've waited so long is something I'm not certain about, but they will be a welcome addition to this already superb PSU. The low gauge material used for the casing however is unlikely to make the slightest difference in regular use, it just increases the risk of damage in transit.
All told the Antec 400W PP412XF is a remarkable piece of electronics that keeps on going when the going gets tough. Its thermally controlled smart fan system worked perfectly and made for a quiter environment in most circumstances, not that it was overly loud when spinning anyway. If you want to be certain that all your motherboard's power requirements are being met without stressing your PSU, the Antec deserves to be at or near the top of your shopping list.

At present, SiS holds the lead in the volume production progress of P4-related integrated chipsets. The company rolled out its SiS650, which integrates SiS’s own graphics chip SiS315, at the end of September, and it plans to enter mass production this month. SiS650 motherboards are expected to start volume production in November, and manufacturers like Asustek Computer and Gigabyte Technology also decided to develop SiS650 boards for the low-end and OEM markets.
POCKET PCS are also very competent MP3 players, and with the improved screens, memory, and horsepower of some of the 2002 models, very nice game platforms as well. If you can justify a Pocket PC as a replacement for other devices you'd buy, the price becomes more manageable.
[...] The Compaq is absolutely evolutionary. This is still a very large PDA, since Compaq decided to maintain compatibility with its existing memory card add-on docking sleeves (which the PDA slides into). The new unit has a better screen, new SD memory support, improved IR support for blasting, the new OS and apps, and optional Bluetooth support, which will be cool if there is ever anything for it to talk to.
AS WE REPORTED earlier, the official date for the introduction of AMD's Athlon XP is October 8/9. And, as we also reported early, AMD will follow this announcement up on October the 15th and 16th with the introduction of Athlon MP processors at 1.4GHz and 1.53GHz.
"Driving the need for removable optical storage, recordable CDs are the storage media of choice today for a wide range of music, data, and now video applications," said Nicos Syrimis, vice president, marketing, for Oak's Optical Storage Group. "With burn time for a CD down to three minutes or less, it is now much easier for users to store and edit up to an hour and a half of high quality audio and video on CD than it has been in the past."
Here's what you have to do to get rid of the black screen of death. You have to unplug the power for 15 seconds or more, and the system should then start to boot normally.
Industry sources have revealed that the real reason behind Intel’s recently canceled 2GHz Xeon server chip was not due to technical issues, but solely attributable to the poor performance of the MPU. Reportedly OEMs pressured the chip giant to snuff the chip after seeing convincing benchmark results demonstrating that dual 1.2GHz Pentium IIIs soundly and consistently beat dual 2 GHz Xeon servers based on the Willamette core. The Santa Clara CPU company now plans to accelerate the launch of “Prestonia,” the 0.13 micron server version of the Pentium 4, into early next year. The first Prestonias are expected to debut at 2.2GHz, the minimum speed necessary, we are told, to reach performance parity with its more established, but much slower-clocked PIII older sibling.
Three stereo outputs and one stereo input are featured on the back of the card, and the easy-access 5 1/4" front module provides additional connections, including MIDI, digital I/O (optical and coaxial), mic in, and line in/out. The integrated Sensaura 3D also enables A3D, EAX 1.0 and EAX 2.0 for gamers. The integrated phono pre amplifier makes it easy to directly record your vinyl treasures from record player into PC, and then burn them onto CD.

Users also have the standard bass and treble adjustment controls, and information is displayed on the small LCD screen on front of the player.
