If you think that ATI`s A4 core-logic is just another cheap solution, like VIA`s P4M266, you are absolutely wrong! We have found the specifications of A4 and we assume it is going to be a really nice one:
Integrated north-bridge memory controller with the RV200 UMA graphics core based on 0.15 micron. It is RV200, not RADEON. It means, it supports HydraVision and we think that manufacturers of the motherboards and PCs will not miss the chance to declare multi-monitor support for their cheap integrated products. Supports SDR and DDR SDRAM via 64-bit bus line. Moreover, A4 supports PC2700 DDR, which results in 2.7 GB/s peak memory bandwidth. There is no information regarding I/O controller or south-bridge from ATI. We think it is quite logical for them to use controllers from third developers, VIA or ALi, for example. Almost all important announcements during fall take their place at IDF or Comdex Fall. We doubt ATI is going to announce A4 core-logic at IDF, because it has already begun and there is no information concerning chipset from canadian developer at the moment. So, ATI may announce A4 at Comdex Fall, in this case they will have to compete with P4M266, which is going to be announced late fall as well.
