Intel Pentium 4 processor launch has been retargeted to WW48. Intel Pentium 4 processor development on track
A PCI interoperability issue has been identified with the Intel 850 chipset
- Hardware validation on track, looking good
The issue is completely understood and has been root caused
- Failures have been seen with certain PCI graphics cards
- This issue will be classified as an ICH2 erratum (only manifests itself with 850 MCH)
850/860 chipset erratum identified
- Due to interaction between the 850 MCH and ICH2
- Fix validated with FIB'd ICH2 Intel will implement a low risk stepping to the ICH2
- New Stepping is B1' (B1 prime)
- B1' samples expected to be avail WW42 and updated production commits WW41
- B1' stepping will not require any motherboard or BIOS changes
- Customers should continue validation efforts with the current ICH2 B1 step
- Customers encouraged to perform targeted regression testing on ICH2 B1' Does not affect Intel Pentium III processor based systems (with 810E, 815E, 820E)
Silicon fix to tie an existing logic signal in the ICH2 to the buffer invalidate logic
- During PCI memory read line or memory read multiple commands, the ICH2 will pre-fetch data from memory and may not invalidate the pre-fetched data(if required), thus allowing invalid data to be delivered to a PCI master
- Issue only occurs in 850/860 chipset based systems due to the unique architectural interactions between the MCH and the ICH2
- Minor metal layer fix

Berners-Lee created the Web while at CERN (the European
Laboratory for Particle Physics) in Switzerland in 1990, as a
method of keeping documentation current and available to the
multitudes of researchers there. Some technologies for distributing
information over a network were available, and implementations of
hypertext applications abounded. Until then, however, no one had
thought to connect the two. Berners-Lee created a simple
implementation of hypertext called HTML (Hypertext Markup
Language), and extended it with the URI (Uniform Resource
Identifier), so that hypertext links could be created not only within
one document or on a single computer, but among networked
computers. For a communications protocol, he devised HTTP
(Hypertext Transfer Protocol) to move data between a Web server
and a client.

The bug with the 850 Tehama chipset blamed for the P4 slippage is fairly minor and reportedly only affects one, unnamed, video card. Intel has already identified the cause and fixed the problem, and, according to one Register source, the 850 is 'already more stable than the 810, 820 and 840 chipsets combined'.

The fact that the Formula Force refuses to stay put is its Achilles Heel, the chink in its otherwise solid armour. Apart from this lone but glaring fault, the Logitech Formula Force GP is a quality wheel at a competitive price. It's USB so it's easy to install and the configuration utility is the same excellent Wingman software that comes with all Logitech game controllers. The force feedback is also strong and satisfying and on the whole it's particularly comfortable to use while retaining the trademark solid construction of all Logitech products. Bottom line - if you think you can get over the problem of the inefficient desk clamps then you won't find a better wheel at this price.
