comprehensive software packet rounds off the hardware features. Beside Steinbergs renowned sample editor WaveLab Lite, Musicmatch Jukebox and Emagics audio/MIDI sequencer MicroLogic Fun are also included. And to top it all off: the full version of "GigaSampler LE" from Nemesys. This software turns your system into a full value sampler with support for countless sounds in GIG, WAV and AKAI format! What makes it so special: the sounds are played directly from the hard drive. That way the sampler's memory capacity is immense. Neben Arturia's Storm - in a special EWX 24/96 edition – awaits the FruityLoops Express, an extremely intuitive, easy to use composition tool inclusive drum-computer, synthesizer and effects processor.
[...] On a seperate slot there is an interface where you can hook-up, among others, the phono PreAmp amplifier power connecter. Along side the connectoer cables for the analog In and Outputs (cinch – cinch), we have placed a 2, yes two, meter long optical cable to connect you to the outside world (e.g. Minidisk player).

What I can tell you is this: just listening to stereo music is a new experience with the Acoustic Edge sound card. Using the four-speaker setup selected in the Acoustic Edge’s control panel, the music seemed more alive than when I listened using a SoundBlaster Live! card. You can fiddle with effects on the SoundBlaster, but it still basically just plays the same left and right signals through left and right of the front and rear speakers. The Acoustic Edge card does more, placing instruments in different areas around my head, using the four speaker surround for more than just simple stereo.

Overall we were quite happy with the Nascar Pro Digital II.

Claiming to take the lead in chip manufacturing, Intel Corp. here today entered the 0.13-micron race by announcing a new process technology complete with copper-interconnects and low-k dielectrics. The Santa Clara, Calif. chip giant will move its new 0.13-micron technology into production in its 200-mm fabs in the first half of 2001, with plans to ramp up the process in its 300-mm plants in 2002.
According to the info from some Taiwanese mainboard manufacturers, VIA has dropped the prices on its
ProSavage PM133 and Apollo Pro266 supporting DDR SDRAM. VIA used to have no concerns about its
products popularity, because its major competitor in the chipset market, Intel, offered only one rivaling
solution, i815E for a much higher price than the chipset from VIA. Besides, i815E featured slower integrated
graphics. However, the recent rollout of the i815EP chipset (without the integrated graphics) costing under
$30 appeared threatening for VIA, because some mainboard manufacturers considered it a good solution for
their products and looked forward to its mass supplies. So, VIA decided to drop the PM133 (with the
integrated graphics) cost down to $31, and Apollo Pro266 cost – down to $30. It means that the end
products based on these chipsets will be as cheap as VIA Apollo Pro133A based mainboards.
