X-Bit Labs meldt dat VIA de prijzen van de ProSavage PM133 en Apollo Pro266 heeft verlaagd als reactie op de release van de Intel 815EP chipset. Door de hoge prijs van de i815E (met geïntegreerde graphics decelerator) zag VIA aanvankelijk weinig reden voor een prijsverlaging, maar dat is veranderd nu Intel de i815EP chipset (zonder ingebakken graphics) heeft geprijsd op 30 dollar. VIA heeft de prijs van de Apollo Pro266 en PM133 (met geïntegreerde graphics) daarom bepaald op respectievelijk 30 en 31 dollar. Voor ons eindgebruikers betekent dit dat de kosten van de nieuwe generatie Apollo Pro266 DDR mobo's gelijk zal zijn aan de Pro133A plankjes:
According to the info from some Taiwanese mainboard manufacturers, VIA has dropped the prices on its ProSavage PM133 and Apollo Pro266 supporting DDR SDRAM. VIA used to have no concerns about its products popularity, because its major competitor in the chipset market, Intel, offered only one rivaling solution, i815E for a much higher price than the chipset from VIA. Besides, i815E featured slower integrated graphics. However, the recent rollout of the i815EP chipset (without the integrated graphics) costing under $30 appeared threatening for VIA, because some mainboard manufacturers considered it a good solution for their products and looked forward to its mass supplies. So, VIA decided to drop the PM133 (with the integrated graphics) cost down to $31, and Apollo Pro266 cost – down to $30. It means that the end products based on these chipsets will be as cheap as VIA Apollo Pro133A based mainboards.
