Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (AMD), the world's largest microchip maker after Intel, is on track to achieve its stated goal of a 30 percent global market share by year-end, a company official said on Tuesday.
Recent launches of products for the mobile computer and workstation/server markets and hopes of a ``modest'' revenue growth will help AMD meet the target, said Wee Yep Yin, a marketing manager at AMD Far East Ltd in Singapore.
``We are on track to meet our corporate objective of market share of 30 percent by the end of this year,'' he said at the Malaysian launch of its first processor designed for servers and workstations.

"Our message to partners is if together we can make this [USB 2.0] disappear, the better it will be for us," he said as part of his speech to launch VIA's C3 processor at the Computex tradeshow in Taiwan.

Because of the great value of IP to Rambus, we must take all steps necessary to protect it from unauthorized use. In fact we have a fiduciary duty to our stockholders to ensure that we receive fair compensation for the use of our IP. Our business model depends on our negotiating license agreements with those companies who want to use our IP, and we have been largely successful in doing this with the majority of companies who respect our IP. But in a few cases, companies have chosen to litigate rather than negotiate license agreements in good faith. In this section of the Rambus website, we will post information intended to give our view on various topics associated with current litigation in which Rambus is involved.
"As the first 40-Gbyte-per-disc product shipping in volume, U Series changes the economics of high-capacity storage with 60 and 80 Gbytes packed onto only two discs. At the same time, it provides the best value for today's popular PC capacities," said Brian Dexheimer, Seagate executive vice president of Sales, Marketing and Customer Service. "We've worked closely with our PC customers to meet their needs with the best combination of performance, acoustics and reliability. As a leader in research and development, now we've also leaped to the industry's highest areal density using stable, proven technologies."
