NVIDIA is going to take over the world. So far reports on this chipset have been very positive in real world settings, and the overwhelming specs that NVIDIA included in this product are mind-boggling! This product is literally 2 years ahead of its time, and NVIDIA was able to complete it in slightly over a year. This is not bad for a company with no prior experience in the core logic market.
While I don’t have a board in my possession, nor have I seen any 3rd party numbers coming out of this board, I feel that it will perform up to expectations, and may in fact surpass these expectations. When I originally heard NVIDIA was going to develop a core logic chipset, I didn’t think they could pull it off, or at least be able to match the performance of other products at the time of release. Currently it looks as if the nForce will rule with an iron fist from top to bottom.
The extra bandwidth provided by the dual channel DDR memory controller, as well as that afforded by the HyperTransport protocol will not go unwasted. When all processors are working at full speed, that extra bandwidth will be needed and much appreciated. As digital content becomes more and more complex, older architectures will be left far behind when dealing with the huge overall bandwidth that this product has.

694D Pro2-IR. This ATX dual-processor solution for FC-PGA/Socket370 processors is built on VIA Apollo Pro133A (694X) and boasts IEEE 1394 (Firewire) controller and ATA-100 RAID controller from Promise onboard. It is equipped with 4 DIMM slots for up to 2GB PC133/PC100 SDRAM, 5 PCI, 1 AGP 4x and 1 CNR slots, supports ATA-100 (due to VT82C686B South Bridge). It also supports PC Alert III and D-LED technologies.

In his report, Kumar, often one of Intel's biggest critics, suggests Sun should give up its resistance to using third-party processors. "The major loser in this transition is Sun. Sun is the only major server vendor that's continuing to use a single-track strategy, offering only its proprietary SPARC platforms and its proprietary operating system," Kumar says. For their part, Sun officials say the tight integration between SPARC chips and the company's Solaris OS adds up to better reliability and value. "You have to look beyond the price of the box and consider total cost of ownership, which is where we excel," says Chris Kruell, group marketing manager for computer systems at Sun.
"It's a tricky thing that (Intel) is doing right now in that it has got to promote Pentium 4 without killing Pentium III," Krewell added. "It's a balancing act. My personal feeling is that they've outrun the market...people think that 1.7GHz and 2GHz (due in the third quarter) is more than they need.
