Toen X-Bit Labs de roadmap van Tyan aan het doorlezen was viel hen op dat het moederbord met de codenaam "Kings" al in juni of juli met grote hoeveelheden tegelijk gemaakt moet worden en volgende maand worden al samples verwacht. Kings is voorzien van de i845 Brookdale chipset, die eigenlijk twee tot drie maanden later moest verschijnen. Deze beslissing sluit perfect aan bij de aggressieve prijsverlagingen, aangezien met Brookdale goedkope SDRAM Pentium 4 systemen te bouwen zijn. Het enige vreemde is dat Kings een Socket478 heeft, waar alleen Willamette478 en Northwood processors inpassen:
At first, we didn’t see anything specific about this product, since every mainboard manufacturer is going to introduce a solution like that. However, the thing is that the production should start in June-July and the first engineering samples should be available in May! In other words, if we regard this info as highly credible then it means that i845 chipset will be launched 2-3 months prior to the initial schedule. In fact, this info may also turn out erroneous, however, this is hardly possible for the following reasons:
- TYAN has always been known for very exact schedules.
- The info about i8145 launched in June perfectly matches the upcoming price cut on Intel Pentium 4 CPUs, which is planned for 29 April. In this case, these CPUs will be fully armed for massive market expansion by summer already, due to low cost and the support of "mass" PC133 memory.
