CNET.com bericht dat Toshiba en Dell een overeenkomst hebben afgesloten waarvan de waarde wordt geschat op $5 miljard. Het gaat om een contract van 3 jaar waarin staat dat Toshiba Dell voorziet van geheugen- en beeldproducten. Er is echter nog meer van de deal te verwachten:

As the relationship develops, Round Rock, Texas-based Dell and Irvine, Calif.-based Toshiba America, a unit of Japan's Toshiba, plan to add other products to their alliance, such as batteries and color display tubes.

The agreement also includes an unspecified co-development deal between the two companies, Toshiba spokeswoman Annette Keller said.

Microsoft en Philips gaan samenwerken aan de ontwikkeling van "enhanced TV". De bedrijven gaan TV-opzetkastjes maken. Deze kastjes draaien op de hardware van Philips en de software van Microsoft. Met "enhanced TV" kunnen kabelmaatschappijen diensten aanbieden als betaal-TV, video-on-demand, interactieve TV-programma's en internet via de televisie. De eerste reeks opzetkastjes zijn gebaseerd op het Nexperia-systeem van Philips en de Microsoft TV-software. De eerste kastjes worden volgend jaar uitgebracht. De twee bedrijven willen ook verschillende diensten aan kabel- en satellietbedrijven leveren, ten einde de mogelijkheden van enhanced TV verder uit te breiden. Hiertoe worden twee onderzoekscentra opgezet.

Wellicht draait dus straks ook je TV op windows. Volgens eerdere berichten van Microsoft zal dit waarschijnlijk een versie van Windows Whistler worden, die Microsoft wil richten op allerlei verschillende markten.

Update: De afsluitende opmerking die hier stond is door diverse mensen verkeerd opgevat. Om verdere misverstanden te voorkomen, is hij weggehaald. Mijn excuses aan diegenen die zich beledigd voelden.

Bij Neoseeker is vandaag een review verschenen van de Artec I-Jungle MP3 speler. Deze speler maakt gebruik van flash geheugen en is verkrijgbaar in smaken van 48MB t/m 96MB. De unit ziet er erg relaxed uit, en produceerd daarnaast volgens de reviewer ook prima geluid. Een erg irritant nadeel van de speler is wel het feit dat hij de volume settings niet onthoud, maar ondanks enkele inperfecties is het toch een erg goede speler :

The Jungle-I is definitely an eye dazzler and pocket pleaser. It is the first MP3 player that has impressed me with its sheer dimunitive size and stylin’ looks. The audio quality is also nothing to be ashamed of, so this player packs beauty and ability with high quality construction. As a tech toy and gadget, this player scores top marks… it will wow your friends and let you show off how cutting edge you really are – I am so in love with the product that I get giddy when I pick it up and show it to someone that has yet to see such a small audio wonder. I would have given the player a 90%, in spite of its lack of expansion and its limited LCD display… but that whole thing about the volume settings retention forces me to dock off some marks and award only a 82%. Ideally, Artec will revise the Jungle-i and improve it for a better end product.

Johan DeGelas van Ace's Hardware heeft een interessant artikel geschreven over het upgraden van je computer. Loont het het meest om een nieuwe videokaart te kopen, of een nieuwe CPU? Er wordt uitgegaan van AMD K6-2 500 en Celeron 433 systemen met een TNT2 aan boord. In deze systemen worden een GeForce2 GTS en een ATI Radeon geplaatst. Bovendien worden de CPU's vervangen door een AMD Athlon 1100, AMD Duron 750, Intel Pentium III 600EB en Intel Celeron II 667. Er worden veel benchmarks uitgevoerd, en in de eindconclusie blijkt dat het bij het spelen van FPS loont om een nieuwe videokaart te nemen, RPG-ers en avonturiers kunnen beter aan een CPU upgrade denken.

There are quite a few cases where plugging a new video card in your aging system is well worth the trouble. If you love the fast paced action of a popular FPS at high resolutions, you should not worry about your aging Celeron or PII system. Your best upgrade option should really be to pay a bit more for a video card in the "Geforce 2 GTS" league (ATI Radeon, Geforce 2 GTS...). If you need to work with complex model in an OpenGL modeling program, then a Geforce2 MX offers a huge return on your investment.

If you like Role Playing and Adventure games, however, a strong CPU is a must.[break]All-rounders kunnen beter in allebei wat (niet te veel) investeren:[/break] What if you like racing simulators, or what if you like all kinds of games and like to do some MP3 encoding, CAD work, etc. too? What if you are searching for an all around CPU?

New game engines and most other applications demand more and more system bandwidth and the Duron 750 proves to be 40-60% (!) faster than the Celeron 667, while both cost about the same amount of money. The Duron costs a lot less than a PIII or Athlon and with this money you can buy a strong video card. As you can see from the benchmarks above, there are a lot of applications where a Duron and a strong video card like the Radeon or Geforce 2 GTS can beat a system with a stronger CPU and slower video card (TNT2, even a Geforce 2 MX).

Naast dit zijn er ook nog wat interessante benchmarks te zien van TnL in actie. Het blijkt dat een AMD K6-2 500 met een GeForce2 GTS sneller is dan een Athlon 1100 zonder in bepaalde tests. Het belooft dus nog een zonnige toekomst te worden voor TnL als het gebruik van veel polygonen doorbreekt.

Tweak3D heeft een review op haar site geplaatst van de Quantum Atlas 10K II 37.2GB SCSI harde schijf. De reviewer is geen professional en is dan ook alleen maar geïnteresseerd in het feit of het gebruiken van een SCSI drive nou iets uitmaakt in het dagelijks gebruik (en tijdens het gamen, natuurlijk). Hier wordt heel positief over gesproken:

Previous to this review, I was running Windows and all my games off of a 5400 RPM Maxtor ATA33 hard drive. It was slow. Painfully slow. The first time I let Windows boot up using the Atlas 10K II it blew me away. The drive loaded everything at once in amazing time. Windows literally booted in under half the time it usually took my IDE drive. Not only that, but there wasn't left-over hard drive reading after it booted. It was perfectly smooth. I decided to try playing a game that would eat some hard drive, so I ran Quake 3 @ 1600x1200x32bpp with every setting on high. Granted I do have a GeForce 2 Ultra (64 MB), a Celeron 566@850, and (only) 128 CAS2 MB SDRAM, but usually on crowded levels in Quake 3, it was quite noticeable when the hard drive swapped. If the hard drive was swapping at all during my gameplay, I didn't even notice. The hard drive read LED (on the drive itself) barely even blinked when running even the most intense levels. The same went for Unreal Tournament -- it ran perfect. I was planning on doubling my RAM, but as long as I have this drive in, nothing needs it. The swap file is accessed so quickly that slow downs are basically non-existent.

De conclusie was dan ook dat de drive zijn geld dubbel en dwars waard was.

The Register schrijft dat VNU het slordige bedrag van 16 miljoen pond (ongeveer ƒ50 miljoen) betaald heeft voor een foutje. Men is namelijk vergeten een url te registreren! Het bedrijf heeft grote investeringen gedaan in een website met de volgende www.jobworld.co.uk, maar is vergeten www.jobworld.com te registreren.

Dit bleek uiteindelijk een zeer kostbare fout te zijn, men heeft een fors bedrag betaald om de ".com" url te kunnen kopen. Eigenlijk doet deze url alleen dienst als een linkthrough. De lachende partij in deze zaak is IDC, die het geld in eigen zak heeft mogen steken. Hier staat de tekst die ook op The Register te lezen is:

Dutch publishers VNU has coughed up £16 million to get involved with Randsatd Holding, the owners of job site newmonday.com, thanks to a hideous URL cock-up last year.

The company has marketed and invested heavily in its own IT job site, jobworld.co.uk, but forgot to register jobworld.com, which was gladly snapped up by IDC. The way the Internet world works means that for all the millions pumped into the co.uk site, a sizeable proportion of those interested went straight to jobworld.com.

To extricate itself from this monster error, it has eventually found a (costly) solution in the form of newmonday.com. What does £16 million buy you? A mirror site of jobworld.co.uk as newmonday's UK branch. Just goes to show it really does pay to think before you leap.

Met ruim 10 miljoen pageviews per maand is deze site zelfs (net) groter dan ons aller tweakers.net -- maar ze hebben dan ook de hele wereld om uit te kiezen, in plaats van alleen Nederlands-sprekenden.

Het Vuurpeloton heeft een Shootout geschreven over de AMD thunderbird 800, Intel Pentium III 800 en een aantal chipsets voor deze processoren. In de synthetische benchmarks komt de Thunderbird/KT133 combo het best voor de dag, terwijl in de game benchmarks de PIII/BX133/i815/i820 meestal het snelst is:

If you can't wait a few months for DDR motherboards to appear, or don't have the resources to upgrade your motherboard and memory the KT133 chipset is the obvious choice if you plan on going with an Athlon system. Considering the price/performance ratio of an AMD system, we see a lot of people going down this path and consider it to be an excellent option. If you're concerned about the future, upcoming chipsets from AMD and VIA will be backwards compatible with today's Socket A Athlons.

On the Intel side of things, it's a bit more complicated. You can go for all-out performance and the low-cost of the BX chipset at 133MHz (the results here today revealed that BX100 probably isn't a wise performance option). Or you can play it safe and sacrifice a little 3D performance with the additional features offered in the 815 chipset. Over time as the 815 platform matures performance will likely improve, but keep in mind the expensive price tag that goes with most of today's 815 motherboards.

The Apollo Pro133A is a nice middle ground between BX133 and 815. It combines the low-price of the BX chipset with performance and features similar to 815. If you're on a tight budget and you don't want to risk overclocking your AGP card the Apollo Pro133A chipset is a very attractive solution.

While having a lot of choices in the marketplace can be confusing to the consumer, overall the end result is a positive one. After all, with so many choices available, there's a price/performance ratio more likely to suit everyone within a given platform. No one article can make the final decision for you, but hopefully this comparison has summed up the current situation effectively enough to aid you in your buying decision. Now go forth and do some more research, but most importantly, have fun with your new system!

Er is dus geen echte winnaar te noemen. De uiteindelijke keuze zal gemaakt moeten worden op grond van budget en je persoonlijke voorkeur.

Bij Tom's Hardware Guide zijn vandaag hun bevindingen te lezen van twee goedkope plankjes voor een dual Pentium III systeem, de MSI 694D Pro en Tyan Tiger 133 Ref F. Beide moederborden zijn gebaseerd op de Via Apollo Pro 133A chipset en gebruiken derhalve SDRAM. De performance van deze twee plankjes vergeleken met een i840 moederbord bleek niet echt denderend te zijn: de Intel OR840 is in bijna alle testen ongeveer 10 procent sneller. Hier tegenover staat wel dat een dual systeem gebaseerd op de Apollo Pro 133A chipset een flink stuk goedkoper is, en daarom zeker geen slechte keus:

From now on, multiprocessing is an option for everybody. Both the Tyan and MSI motherboards provide good performance at attractive prices. Both motherboards start at approximately $170, which is not much more than what you have to pay for 815 motherboards. Particularly the MSI board is excellently featured and gives you all important functions including sound and Firewire.

Maybe some of you wonder why I am praising the two VIA boards, even though the OR840 provides clearly better performance. Of course there are some workstation applications which justify the invenstment in an i840-platform. However, the VIA-based SMP-platforms make dual-processor systems available to anyone. Most users don't want a dual system just to have the fastest possible solution, but to increase their own efficiency.

Prices for the Intel OR840 board start at approx. $300. In addition, 256 MB Rambus DRAM cost at least as much as 1 GB PC133 SDRAM. I can also say it in other words: $2000 are enough to buy two VIA boards, four 667 MHz Pentium III CPUs and four 128 MB DIMMs. For that money you could also get an OR840, two Pentium III 667 CPUs and 256 MB RDRAM.

De MSI 694D Pro lijkt beter te zijn als de Tyan Tiger 133: hij presteerd in alle benchmarks net een tikje beter als de Tyan Tiger 133 en daarnaast is ie ook wat feature rijker. Daarnaast maakt de Tiger plank gebruik van een Slot 1 interface en kun je gewoon FC-PGA processoren op de MSI plank prikken.

We hebben voor een zondag extreem goed gescoord met ruim 2 miljoen! Dit hebben we te danken aan de grote flush van [DPC] Killemall. Ook lopen we vandaag weer 800.000 blokjes in op AnandTech, dit betekent dat we nog steeds kans maken om ze in te halen voordat RC5 voorbij is. Jim Warren van AnandTech komt ons vandaag verblijden met een heldere guide over speakers. Alle belangrijke begrippen uit de audiowereld worden besproken en uitgelegd, zodat je met een gerust hart naar een verkoper in een audiozaak durft te stappen. Begrippen die onder andere bespoken worden zijn de frequentie response, de geluidssterke en alle soorten surround sound. Hieronder een stukje over de frequentie response:

A much more clear method of specifying frequency response involves giving a tolerance, the range within which the speaker produces all of the frequencies within its frequency response range. For example, a frequency response of 20 Hz to 20 kHz +/- 3 dB indicates a much superior speaker to the one mentioned earlier with a bass roll off of 40 dB. Basically, the latter speaker maintains its level all the way into its lowest frequency, while the former just goes away (rolls off) in its lower frequencies. The lowest bass frequency is at most only half of what a typical mid range frequency is reproduced at. Without indicating the tolerance on the specifications, companies can create extremely misleading specifications.


Specifications given in figure 2 could indicate that this speaker responded from 35 Hz to 20 kHz—it reads on the diagram across that entire spectrum. However, the red box indicates what frequency range would be offered with a tolerance of roughly +/- 5 dB, or a range of roughly 50 Hz to ~17kHz. Both specifications would be true, but only the second one would be very honest.

If a speaker company will not indicate a tolerance in their specifications, it raises the question of what they are trying to hide. In addition to indicating how the ends of the frequency spectrum, the tolerance indicates the accuracy of the spectrum. The tolerance indicates that at no point in the spectrum are there extreme spikes or discrepancies that would not show up in a spec without a tolerance reading. Each speaker has its own frequency response that gives it “color,” a speaker’s individual tonal qualities or sound. This characteristic determines how the frequency response shapes the sound to make it better by emphasizing certain frequencies.

Bij VR-Zone Hardware hebben ze een interessant artikeltje waarin wordt uitgelegd hoe je het voltage op de Abit KT7 RAID hoger dan 1,85 volt kunt zetten. Na wat aanpassingen kregen ze het voltage op 1,94 volt. In deze quote kun je lezen hoe ze het bij VR-Zone hebben aangepakt:

After seeing many nice reviews about the ABIT KT7 RAID, i am sure many have owned this board or thinking of getting this board. The ABIT KT7 allows the max voltage of 1.85V through the SoftMenu and many are able to overclock their Duron 700 to 1Ghz by setting VCore at 1.85V. When overclocking the Duron, VCore voltage play a very important part to which how much you could overclock and there is a limit to which you can set the VCore voltage. In this case, the ABIT KT7 allows a max of 1.85V and it would be interesting to see how much more your Duron can be overclocked if the VCore voltage can be increased some more.
I am still waiting for the EPoX 8KTA+ which allows VCore to be set to 2.0V and that would be real interesting. Nevertheless, if we can modify ABIT KT7 RAID to give us higher VCore voltage above 1.85V, it would definetely rock. Let's see how we can modified this board :

The VCore voltage is determined by the Microprocessor CORE Voltage Regulator HIP 6301. It allows voltages from 1.1V to 1.85V in 0.025V steppings. VID4 (Pin 1), VID3(Pin 2), VID2 (Pin 3), VID1(Pin 4) and VID0 (Pin 5) are voltage identifcations inputs from the microprocessor. HIP6301 decodes the VID bits to establish output voltage and it offers an over voltage protection of around 10-15%. In other words, we still can squeeze another 10% out of the max voltage of 1.85V that is 1.1 x 1.85V = 2.035V as long as it is within the limits.

Hardwareinfo.net is vandaag aangevuld met een vergelijking tussen de AOpen CRW1232, HP 9510i en de Plextor PlexWriter 12/10/32, drie IDE herfikkers die dankzij een 12 speed brandsnelheid slechts 6 minuten over een CD'tje doen. Omdat de PlexWriter als enige is uitgerust met burn-proof is deze uiteraard de logische winnaar. De HP 950i is verder voor tweakers wat minder interessant door zijn hogere prijs vanwege oninteressante beginnerssoftware:

Als we zo naar de drie CD writers kijken, dan moeten we concluderen dat er geen enkel slecht product tussen zit. Persoonlijk zou ik de HP 9510i niet kiezen omdat de meegeleverde software voor de gevorderde gebruiker niet interessant genoeg is, terwijl hier wel voor betaald moet worden. Iemand die nog nooit met een brander heeft gewerkt en ook niet erg thuis is in het computer wereldje, maar wel CD’tjes wil gaan branden, doet met de 9510i een goede keus.

Een zeer goede brander voor niet veel geld is de AOpen CRW1232. Deze brander biedt naast op hoge snelheid branden ook nog veel goede software tegen een aantrekkelijke prijs.

Uitblinker, ondanks de lage leessnelheden en kleine hoeveelheid meegeleverde software, is de Plexwriter 12/10/32A. Dit heeft hij grotendeels aan de revolutionaire BURN-Proof technologie te danken, waardoor geen enkele CDR(W) meer hoeft te mislukken.

Opgemerkt moet worden dat als Windows 2000 als besturingssysteem gebruikt wordt, CD’tjes ook minder vaak hoeven te mislukken. Dit komt omdat Windows 2000 aan het brandproces automatisch hogere prioriteit geeft. Bent u dus in het bezit van Windows 2000, dan is de AOpen CRW 1232 bijna net zo goed als de Plexwriter 12/10/32A.

Duane Pemberton van Gamers Depot heeft eens gekeken naar het AOpen AX3S Pro i815e moederplankje met 1xAGP, 1xCNR en 5xPCI. Het plankje bleek zeer stabiel te opereren maar zwaar tegen te vallen voor overclocking. Bussnelheden van rond de 150MHz voor i815 plankjes zijn vrij normaal terwijl deze AX3S Pro het al op 116MHz voor gezien hield . Lees hier het hele verhaal.

We found the overclocking results of this board to be rather ironic. You’d think that a board with this much attention to detail built into it, would be one of the better overclocker’s around, however, our testing showed otherwise. Using a 933Mhz PIII, we were only able to get the bus speed up to 112Mhz, and have the system still run stable. At 116Mhz, we did get it to post, but nothing afterwards. I know some of you might think this is no big deal, but keep in mind that when we reviewed MSI’s competing board we were able to clock it up to a whopping 149Mhz bus speed! It’s a shame that the Aopen didn’t perform better. Results may vary depending on the particular CPU you have, and how the moon is aligned with the Sun on the particular day you try it. Aopen brags about the fact that this board supports their “Die-hard” Bios, which essentially is only an optional device that you purchase that lets your reset the BIOS without having to take open the case. Call me cynical, but do we need this? I mean, with other boards you don’t have to take off the case to set a jumper or purchase option equipment like this. Most boards have a soft-reset in where you’d just hold down a key like F11 while it boots, and it resets the BIOS. I’m not too certain just why Aopen thinks this is a big deal.

Laatst was er het definitieve" bewijs dat AMD de multiplier pins van haar socket A cpu's ging slopen. InsaneHardware liet in een artikel een foto zien van een Duron die enkele pinnen voor de multiplier instelling mist. Via het HardOCP forum en AMDzone komen we terecht bij FrostyTech. Daar staan 2 foto's van een Duron bij elkaar. Als je de 2 foto's met elkaar vergelijkt zijn de overeenkomsten goed te zien, wat nog eens duidelijker gemaakt wordt door de 2 foto's over elkaar heen te leggen met Fotowinkel. De bovenste zou het orgineel zijn en daar onder dus de neppert.

Update: Jai heeft een stuk uitleg geschreven over hoe de vork in de steel steekt. Het blijkt inderdaad een fake te zijn. Zijn betrouwbare bron was een vriend van hem die zijn CPU had geleend:[/break]A friend of mine gave me the photograph claiming it was authentic. Being a mate I believed him. He said he had the Duron Processor and he just purchased it. So that was as far as I took the image value and proceeded to watermark it and publish it.[break]Natuurlijk niet slim en niet zo goed voor je reputatie als webmaster. En wat was de reaktie van die vriend?[/break]Well I called up my mate and asked him about this, all he said was "Ha Ha, I tricked you".

Dus vooralsnog lijkt deze hele affaire achteraf een storm in een glas water, met als mooie uitkomst dat de AMD cpu's nog makkelijk door Tweakers te over te klokken zullen zijn.

In Amerika is het gebruikelijk dat in geval van een grote rechtzaak veel bedrijven en ander soort organisaties hun mening geven over de zaak. Zo ook gebeurt dit bij het Napster-proces. Al eerder berichtte ik dat een aantal grote internetbedrijven hun standpunt aan de rechter had geschreven. Nu heeft ook de Amerikaanse overheid uitspraak gedaan met betrekking tot het filesharing programma. Het copyright-bureau van de regering verklaart dat ze het eens is met het standpunt van rechter Patel. Te verwachten is dat dit zeer nadelig is voor Napster, aangezien de rechter zich vast wel een beetje laat beïnvloeden door de overheid van zijn land:

De Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) en de Motion Picture Assocociation of America (MPAA) zijn de logische tegenstanders van het besluit van de hogere rechtbank. Zij hebben dan ook brieven gestuurd aan het US Court waarin ze nog eens aangeven wat er fout is aan Napster.

De verklaring van het US Copyright Office zal echter de meeste impact hebben. Dit overheidsbureau stelt dat er geen wet is die de activiteiten van Napster rechtvaardigt. De advocaten van Napster stellen altijd dat de Audio Home Recording Act de activiteiten van de 22 miljoen gebruikers van Napster rechtvaardigt.

Deze uit 1992 stammende wet laat het maken van een kopietje van een muziekbestand voor persoonlijk gebruik toe. Het copyrightbureau stelt dat deze wet niet van toepassing is op Napster; in dit geval gaat het om de algemene verspreiding van gekopieerd materiaal waarop copyright berust. Daarmee schaart het bureau zich achter rechter Patel van de lagere rechtbank.

Nu.nl meldt in dit bericht dat Nokia haar Media Terminal heeft aangekondigd, een combinatie van een internet PC, spelcomputer en videorecorder die je aansluit op je TV. Het apparaat zal o.a. een Celeron 366, 20GB harddisk, 3D-kaart en een ISDN, ADSL of kabel modem krijgen die worden aangestuurd door Linux. De release date staat volgens deze press release gepland op het tweede kwartaal van 2001:

In navolging van Philips heeft Nokia een set-box aan het publiek voorgesteld. Het apparaat, door de fabrikant Media Terminal gedoopt, is een combinatie van een PC, spelcomputer en videorecorder en wordt aangesloten op de televisie.

Het hart van de Media Terminal vormt een Intel Celeron 366 Mhz processor. Daarnaast is hij uitgerust met een 20 Gb Harddisk, 3D grafische kaart en een modem geschikt voor ISDN, ADSL of kabel. De boel wordt aangestuurd door speciale Linux software.

Dit klinkt allemaal net als een PC en dat is het apparaat eigenlijk ook; websites bekijken, MP3 bestanden afspelen en plaatjes bekijken, het kan allemaal. Daarbij is het mogelijk om videobeelden op te nemen. Het verschil is dat je televisie als monitor dient.

Bij VIA Hardware staat een review online van de net gereleaste 3dfx Voodoo4 4500 videokaart. De V4-4500 heeft slechts één VSA-100 chippie aan boord en 32MB geheugen @ 166MHz, samen goed voor zo'n 333-367 Megapixels per seconde. De pijnlijke conclusie van dit alles is dat de anderhalf jaar oude Voodoo3 3000 nét zo snel is en de even veel kostende GeForce2 MX betere prestaties neerplant:

The Voodoo 4 4500 was released with a budget focus. 3DFX plans on using the 4500 to compete in the low end, while its 5500 and 6000 compete in the mid to high range market. The 4500 retails with a price of $149.99 compared to the 5500's $299.99 price tag.

3dfx completely missed a product cycle. This card was originally intended to be released at the beginning of this year to battle in the low end. The 4500 is equipped with almost all of the features of a modern card. AGP 4x, 32 bit color rendering, and FSAA. Although the 4500 has these features, the performance is on par with a Voodoo 3 3000. Which was released nearly a year and a half ago.

Turns out the pin pattern I used from
tweakers.net is not the same as I have on my Duron 650. UnaClocker and suggested I try all the pins with a continuity tester and shown below is what I found: Leg 2 of the leftmost resistor is connected up, NOT Leg 1 as shown in the Tweakers Net article.

I just got this email from Jasper Janssen of Tweakers net: ( )

"You'll notice the resistor pack pins you get are equal to the not-cut bridges of L3/L4. If yours was a Duron 650, that leftmost two pins of L3 should connect to the second pin from the left, not the first as in my 600. To be exact, the first half of L3 does BP_FID[0], up to the last two of L4 which control BP_FID[3]."

Well, that explains it! Each speed rating has a different pattern, but all you do is read L3 and L4 and you know what goes to what. Thanks Jasper!
