Apple heeft geïrriteerd gereageerd op de introductie van de nieuwe Windows Media Player van Microsoft. Het bedrijf gaf aan dat het verheugd is dat Microsoft probeert om met versie 9 van Media Player haar Quicktime 6 bij te houden, maar vindt ook dat de softwaregigant uit Redmond met de nieuwe applicatie ook aantoont dat het andere standaarden niet waardeert. De reden dat Apple zo hard tekeer gaat, komt onder meer doordat het bedrijf medeoprichter is van de Internet Streaming Media Alliance. Deze alliantie volgt de International Organization for Standards die het Quicktime bestandsformaat als standaard heeft gekozen voor MPEG-4 bestanden. Microsoft heeft besloten om alleen haar eigen Windows Media bestanden te ondersteunen en zo haar wil door te drukken, aldus Frank Casanova, Apple's directeur van QuickTime product marketing:
"It was flattering that they were comparing themselves to QuickTime and are largely following our lead. There's one area that they are not following our lead, and it's too bad," said Casanova. "They believe they are so big that they can take away what consumers want. They believe their size and momentum can drive an entire industry in a proprietary direction with technologies built by Microsoft. That direction is very much opposite to where most of the industry is going."

Den Forschern um Jan Isberg von der Universität Uppsala in Schweden gelang es nun mit einer mikrowellenbasierten Aufdampfungs-Technik, eine Diamant-Kristallschicht ausreichender Reinheit herzustellen. Sie erzeugten den synthetischen Diamant-Filme durch chemische Dampfabscheidung (CVD): Kohlenstoffatome aus einem kohlenstoffreichen Dampf, zum Beispiel Methangas, lagern sich dabei auf der Oberfläche eines Substrats -- in diesem Fall ebenfalls Diamant -- ab. Während des Aufdampfens dotierten die Wissenschaftler die Diamant-Schicht mit Bor.
Rosenberger added that even if a person were an acceptable job applicant, it would not guarantee that the person would work with computers.
But according to CENS, TSMC in June inked a letter of intent with the government of the Songjiang district in Shanghai to finalize the fab project. The Songjiang government has reserved a 2,000-hectare site for TSMC's investment plan, which could support two 8-inch fabs and two 300-mm fabs, the report said.
