This was a test of five cameras but of two types of product, one micro and the other mini. For the micros, the Sony U10 is an easy winner over the Casio Exilim EX-M2. For the minis, Canon wins by a short head over Minolta because of its colors. But if you want a powerful zoom, then the Dimage Xi should be your choice. The Toshiba PDR-T30 takes nice photos but could do with new ergonomics.
China sentenced two Beijing boys to life in prison in August for starting the city's worst fire in 50 years. Police said the boys were angry because cafe staff would not let them surf there. Web users at the Lanjisu (Blue Hyperspeed) cafe were trapped inside the blazing den because its door was locked and windows blocked by iron bars. A few customers escaped by squeezing through a bathroom window. Security obsessed China keeps tight controls on Internet cafes, driving many underground, where they operate behind locked doors to avoid scrutiny.

Demand for CCD (charge-coupled device) sensors should drive the light-emitting semiconductor market back up after an estimated 10% decline this year, but the communications semiconductor market is likely to slide, he stated. However, the rebound would not happen until the second half of the year due to the conflict with Iraq, Sheppard added.
"A couple years ago, there were freebies and huge discounts. This year the value was free shipping; you didn't see as many free giveaways," said NetRatings' chief e-commerce analyst Lisa Strand. "Toward the end of the season, you saw a huge shift toward shoppers coming online because of convenience rather than price and to avoid the crowds." The exact amount of online sales growth differs among research and tracking firms because of varied methodologies.
