Op ZDNet valt te lezen dat Microsoft een overeenkomst met Sega heeft gesloten. Sega zal een aantal games voor de Xbox ontwikkelen, waaronder het toppertje-to-be Shenmue II. Ook gaat Sega samen met Microsoft werken aan een versie van de Xbox voor in de arcedehal. Dit zou een Xbox op een gemakkelijk in arcademachines te bouwen moederbord moeten worden. Sega, dat zich kort geleden terugtrok uit de console-markt toen de productie van de Dreamcast werd stilgezet, krijgt door deze overeenkomst een steuntje in de rug. Het bedrijf hoopt uit zijn huidige slechte financiële situatie te geraken door een grote producent van spellen te worden. Microsoft ziet de deal als een goed voorteken:

De samenwerking met Microsoft is een grote steun in de rug van Sega, dat zijn penibele financiële situatie wil aanpakken met het ambitieuze plan een grote producent van spellen te worden. De firma blijft daarom ook games maken voor andere platforms dan de Xbox, met name de PlayStation 2. Dit jaar verwacht Sega vijftien miljoen spellen te verkopen, verklapte Sega-topman Masanao Maeda; volgend jaar moeten dat er twintig miljoen meer worden.

The System is degene die verantwoordelijk was voor deze submit.

Gisteren zorgde de zaterdagdip ervoor dat we net geen 2 miljoen haalden, maar dat was toch ruim voldoende voor de eerste plaats.

Waar het vandaag wat minder ging was ECCp. Daar moesten we onze eerste plaats na ruim twee maanden overdragen aan AnandTech. Dus als je op zoek bent naar een ander project, daar kunnen ze je hulp op dit moment goed gebruiken.

Maar natuurlijk zijn er ook bij RC5 nog steeds leden nodig, we moeten tenslotte als eerste de juiste key vinden. Hier kun je vinden hoe je mee kunt doen.

Ook zijn er weer hitparades van ECCp, SETI@Home, Genome@Home, THINK en OGR.

De russen van Digit-Life hebben een review in elkaar geknutseld over de AquaCoool waterkoelingkit van InfiniPro. Deze kit bestaat uit een tweetal waterblokken, een klein pompje, siliconen slang en de nodige bevestigingshardware. Verder wordt er een compacte radiator bij geleverd welke uitgerust is met een 80mm fan. De prestaties van de kit zijn prima, maar de geluidsproductie valt tegen. Desondanks is de AquaCool een mooie, professionele kit voor een redelijke prijs:

The InfiniPro AquaCool is a really excellent device! Among its advantages are:

• full and sufficient set of components
  
• high quality of the heat-exchangers and radiator
  
• convenience in use
  
• high thermal effectiveness

There are also some downsides (a relatively high noise level, a low pump performance), but they do not outweigh the advantages and minimize the pleasant impression.

The InfiniPro AquaCool justifies its price, being a good example of a competent approach to realization of water cooling.

In the near future the AquaCool system will be equipped with a mounting set compatible with the Socket 478 and with a more efficient heatsink!

HlpDsK schrijft dat Abit bekend heeft gemaakt welke van haar Socket-A moederborden overweg kan met de nieuwe Athlon XP processor. Helaas voor ons tweakers zullen de meeste versies van de populaire KT7A KT133A plank (alsmede de KT7E) niet compatible zijn. Alle versies (t/m 1.2) die voor de release van de Athlon XP zijn geproduceerd zijn incompatible met de nieuwe Athlon. Voor de rest (KT7A 1.3, KG7) komt er een BIOS-update uit waarna ze overweg kunnen met Athlon XP's.

De Magic Plus! zou 's werelds eerste 3D wegwerpcamera zijn. De camera fotografeert door drie f/27mm lensjes, waardoor het onderwerp vanuit verschillende invalshoeken wordt vastgelegd. Wanneer de film volgeschoten is, kan het complete doosje worden opgestuurd naar een bedrijf dat de film verwerkt en vervolgens 3D foto's terugstuurt. Er is geen 3D-bril nodig om het resultaat te bekijken. De camera is voorzien van een flits, een viewfinder en uitgerust met een ISO400 negatieffilm, die goed is voor 16 opnames. Het toestelletje kost hier £19,60 en hier £18,95. Het ontwikkelen en afdrukken van de film kost £18,80:

This has to be the hottest throwaway there is. Processing the film isn't cheap, but you'll get the funkiest pictures back!

AMD's besluit om haar meest recente Athlon processors naar Windows XP te vernoemen, heeft een ernstige terugslag veroorzaakt. Linux gebruikers dreigen met een wereldwijde boycot van alle AMD producten, indien de toevoeging XP gehandhaaft blijft, zo zegt The Inquirer:

"Like, I love AMD man, the Athlon rocks, but no way I'm buying anything with XP in the name," says haXoR339, financial controller of Linux software developer Funky Penguin.

"Wow, this sucks real bad, dude," adds Linux guru Burgess Meredith. "How Jerry (Saunders !!!, niet Springer - JL) could sell out to The Man (Bill Gates? - JL) is just unbelievable. Using even the name of a Microsoft product is anathema to any true geek. Looks like Pentium 4's the only game in town from now on."
