To sum it up, the SA6R looks like another winner for ABIT. They've just got to make sure that the price is right. With the built-in audio and video, you can save a few bucks on those components and get a motherboard that performs very well. Then save up your dollars for a screaming video card. The onboard sound will definitely work well enough to hold you over so you may not even want to spend the money on another sound card. ABIT has once again taken a standard technology and expanded it by using their creativity and innovation. The 815E already supports four UDMA100 IDE drives. That wasn't good enough. ABIT threw on another IDE controller so you can have four more UDMA100 IDE drives and even use RAID if you want to. That is a very flexible solution and one that a lot of you will likely take advantage of. Since this is the first 815E motherboard we've reviewed, we've got to leave a little room for another manufacturer to step up and design a better solution using the 815E chipset. Let's just put it this way... They've got their work cut out for them because the ABIT SA6R has thrown down the gauntlet and seems to be up for the challenge.
If you are looking to upgrade to new technology from that old BX chipset you have, the ABIT SA6R should definitely be in the top tier of motherboards you consider. You get very similar performance to the BX chipset but still get the new technology such as AGP 4X and PC133 memory support. Once again, ABIT has taken a great concept and delivered a great motherboard.

To be frank, the SE6 is a bit of a disappointment coming from ABIT. We are not saying that the board has bad performance or poor stability. In fact, the board performs very well and is highly stable. The board even provides quite some settings for users to overclock their CPUs. However, ABIT does not meet the expectations from users. The choice of using SoftMenu II instead of SoftMenu III probably hurts them the most. The lost of the 1MHz increments and some other settings can be the reasons for users to go for some other boards instead.
Today we have some details for you (we can also talk about Radeon VE, but there is nothing special in it).
R200 won't be only a higher clocked chip but it will have some improvements in its architecture - first of all it will have 4 pipelines with 3 texture blocks on each pipeline. Besides, R200 will support the technology similar to Matrox DualHead or NVIDIA TwinView.
