Ik las net op Fokzine dat het erop lijkt dat de Startpagina's dochters het niet meer zien zitten bij Startpagina.nl en hebben besloten te verhuizen naar Boogo.nl, een Startpagina kloon waar ze wel duidelijk zijn met de rechten van de dochters:

Momenteel loopt het werkelijk storm met aanmeldingen van beheerders van huidige en voormalige dochters van startpagina bij startpagina-kloon Boogo. Boogo bezit momenteel al een kleine 100 subpaginas. De afgelopen dagen zijn er meer dan 90 nieuwe aanmeldingen bij ons binnen gekomen en het aantal loopt nog steeds op.

"Blijkbaar kiezen deze voormalige dochters van Startpagina nu toch voor een startpagina waar de zaken duidelijk geregeld zijn, en waarbij beide partijen precies weten wat ze nu en in de toekomst aan elkaar hebben," aldus Marco van Gimst, de maker van Boogo.nl.

Het kan natuurlijk ook zo zijn dat een heleboel mensen hebben gedacht dat er geld te verdienen is met een dochterpagina en snel een pagina zijn begonnen bij een concurent van Startpagina.nl in de hoop dat daar ookwel 1000 piek te vinden is .

Renkie bezorgde de tip dat Asus een nieuw BIOS voor de K7M online heeft gezet. Welke extra features deze versie 1009 heeft wordt niet gemeld. De site komt niet verder dan "Latest April updates". De file kun je hier naar binnen halen.

Verder meldt Zoiah dat Nvidia een nieuw BIOS voor de TNT2-light, de M64 heeft uitgebracht. De verbeteringen zijn echter vrij beperkt:

Add support for the Chrontel 7007.
Add support for building BIOS with no TV or flat panel support.

Overall, I am impressed with the results I have seen so far. The visual enhancement FSAA gives is incredible. I expect drivers to mature and to resolve many of the issues I have seen, primarily FPS rates. Obviously, games using the GLIDE API are at a distinct advantage here. Unfortunately, screen shots just cannot do this piece of equipment justice. If you watch a game in motion without FSAA, you can see shimmering, watch lines be drawn as there is movement. With FSAA on, there is nothing but film quality or better smooth movement. In external view in FALCON 4.0, you can easily see texture lines being redrawn on the nose area of the jet as you bob up and down. Especially when you consider that 3dfx has told us they are going for the high-end of the market with their products. Truth be told, making old games look better with last years speed performance is not really the high-end of the video card market.

3dfx's high-end hope seems to lie with the Voodoo5 6000, which sports four VSA-100 processors. With double the fill-rate of the Voodoo5 5500 AGP, the Voodoo5 6000 should be able to build a solid lead against the GeForce 256 DDR. We do not know what it can do against NV15 though, and that is a more important contest.

edward schrijft dat er alweer Fransen zijn met GeForce2 GTS benchmarks, ditmaal stonden die in een blad (ja zoiets van papier) en iemand was zo gek om alles in te scannen :

I received an interesting email. It was a review of a GeForce2 GTS from a french magazine. The person scanned all the pages and .zipped them to me. Well I took out the benchmarks out of this huge (3.4meg) zip. All the numbers and frames per second you see are runned from a Pentium III 500.

Zoals te zien is in het grafiekje hierboven is de GeForce2 GTS wel een stukje sneller dan de GeForce maar de performance valt toch wat tegen omdat de bandbreedte van het geheugen nog meer dan bij de GeForce SDR de bottleneck is.

Zoals te verwachten zitten er in deze preview lekker veel benchmarks (12 pagina's) en wordt de performance van de Voodoo5 vergeleken met (bijna)alle kaarten die we het laatste jaar op de markt hebben gezien:

Our take on the situation is that you can’t expect the hardware to get much faster than what we have here now; the main points for improvement will be in the drivers. At this point, it is highly unlikely that the shipping VSA-100 chips will feature a much higher clock speed than 166MHz unless 3dfx has been hiding something from us.

To some that may seem pretty disappointing, it all depends on what you were expecting from the card. In most cases, the Voodoo5 5500 manages to outperform a DDR GeForce, but not by an incredible amount and the Voodoo4 4500 is having quite a bit of difficulty keeping up with an SDR GeForce.

MSNBC news schrijft dat insiders in de anti-trust zaak tegen Microsoft zeggen dat de kans groot is dat Microsoft wordt opgedeelt in drie aparte bedrijven. Er komen dan waarschijnlijk de onderdelen OS, internet en software maar Internet Explorer mag dan wel geïntegreerd worden met Windows (gelukkig?):

WASHINGTON, April 24 — The Justice Department and 19 states are leaning toward asking a court to split Microsoft Corp. into two or three separate companies in a plan designed to end the software giant’s monopoly in the U.S. computer industry, people familiar with the discussions said over the weekend.

Under a Justice Department plan being shared with states and industry executives, Microsoft would be forced to split off the Windows operating system from the rest of the company, sources said. The Windows company would be permitted to include functions that permit browsing of the Internet.
Microsoft then would be forced to spin off a second company that sells its software applications, such as a word processor and the Excel spreadsheet programs. That company also might get parts of the company that make the Internet browser, the software used to access the World Wide Web, sources said.
If Microsoft is divided into three companies, sources said, the third would be an Internet company that would get the browser and the Microsoft Network, which is the Internet service provider and Web portal that competes with America Online Inc. and other companies

Hot Hardware heeft ook een Alpha Voodoo5 5500 AGP bemachtigt en heeft een uitgebreide preview geschreven waarin ze de Voodoo5 vooral vergelijken met de GeForce DDR:

This product review needs no introduction. We have been waiting a long time for the next coming of Voodoo Graphics. In what seems like a deluge of market hype over next generation 3D Graphics chipsets from various vendors, 3dfx unleashes one of their most lethal weapons in the battle for 3D dominance. Currently in an "Alpha 2" stage, we received, what 3dfx would classify as their mid range product, the Voodoo5-5500 AGP.

[...] What should you take away from this preview? Well, for sure you can see that the Voodoo5 has a lot of promise. Not yet ready for release, this card has shown us great image quality with FSAA and 32 bit color. Frame rates were decent with all features turned up to max in Quake and UT with 4X FSAA and 2X FSAA. There is a lot of driver optimization to come before the release of the product to the retail channel. Remember when the GeForce first came out? Remember the frame rate increases that were offered with each new driver release and even recently with the 5.13 drivers? We think surely you can expect the same migration to higher performance with the Voodoo5, even before they hit the shelves, not to mention as the weeks roll on after release.

There will be no rating here for this product since it is in pre-release status and it would be unfair to pass full judgment at this point in time. What we can tell you is that it has changed the way we look at 3D Image Quality in computer graphics. In addition, 3dfx has raised the performance bar once again. The weeks and months to come will certainly be very interesting considering all of the new products coming to market in the 3D Graphics arena. We think the Voodoo5 will provide a gaming and 3D graphics solution that will make a lot of folks much happier in their over all experience.

Ze als al eerder gezien is de GeForce op lagere resoluties sneller is dan de Voodoo5, een duidelijk teken dat de drivers nog verbeterd moeten worden.
