Cookies zijn ouderwets als je een uniek profiel van iemand - cross site - wil hebben.
Daarvoor doe je gewoon aan fingerprinting;

Hier kan je testen of je browser dusdanig veel informatie 'lekt' dat je als unieke visitor getracked kan worden, puur op basis van je hardware en wat meta-data (
hint : iedereen is uniek en kan zo van een uniek profiel voorzien worden).
- edit - In het verlengde hiervan; Facebook analyseert ook de microfoon (video opname) van je telefoon en lens van je (telefoon-) camera (fotografie) op ruis en artefacten.

Aan de hand van bv. stof en krasjes op de lens van je telefoon, weten ze zo personen te matchen die elkaar ogenschijnlijk niet kennen - maar door jouw lens ( als intermediair ) wel met elkaar in verband worden gebracht.
Als jij ( persoon A ) dus persoon B ) fotografeert en vervolgens ( met dezelfde telefoon ) ook persoon C ), dan krijgen persoon B ) en persoon C ) binnen 24 uur een vriendschaps-suggestie van elkaar ( omdat Facebook weet dat zowel B ) als C ) verbonden zijn via persoon A ) ).
Dus het tracken en profileren gaat iets verder dan cookies alleen.
Bv. om 'gepersonaliseerde advertenties' te tonen, maakt Facebook gebruik van deze data-points uit je - door hun opgestelde - profiel;
(zoals je ziet is je browser-fingerprint er daar maar één van).
