Micron Semiconductor heeft hun Microprocessor Forum presentatie over de mogelijkheden van embedded DRAM in PDF formaat online gemikt. Dit .PDFje geeft wat interessante details over Micron's Mamba Athlon chipset, waarin eDRAM toegepast wordt als L3 cache ('eCache'). De Mamba chipset werd hiertoe gevuld met 8 eDRAM cores van elk 1Meg. De bandbreedte van deze eDRAM cores is 2,4GB/s en de latency bedraagt 5 klokcycli. Tesamen leveren ze de gigantische bandbreedte van 9,6GB/s sustained en 19,2GB/s burst, ver boven de maximale bandbreedte van de frontside bus.
Het principe van de Mamba chipset zou daarom ideaal kunnen zijn in situaties waarbij de totale FSB bandbreedte groter is dan de geheugen bandbreedte, zoals bijvoorbeeld het geval is bij de 760MP chipset. Afgezien van de bandbreedte beperking heeft het gebruik van eCache volgens Micron een duidelijke verlaging van de geheugen latencies tot gevolg. Dit betekent minder neuspeuterij als de processor moet wachten op data uit het geheugen, zodat de CPU z'n execution units beter kan benutten en de performance omhoog gaat - volgens Micron zelfs met 15%:

At $399, the 3D Prophet II GTS Pro costs about $175 more than the least expensive GeForce2 GTS 32MB cards. For $120 more than the least expensive 64MB GeForce2 GTS and $100 less than a GeForce2 Ultra, you get a card that performs about half-way between these two types of cards. We figure that, if you're going to spend $400 for a card, you may as well spend $500 and get the ultimate in performance. If you cannot afford an Ultra and want something better than a GeForce2 GTS, the 3D Prophet II GTS Pro provides it, but you don't get great bang for the buck. That puts the 3D Prophet II GTS Pro, when overclocked, near GeForce2 Ultra speeds. Of course, not all cards overclock the same, and you may have worse luck than we did.
