De mannen van Sharky Extreme hebben vandaag een review gepubliceerd over de Hercules 3D Prophet II GTS Pro. De Prophet II Pro is de plus versie van de normale 64MB GeForce2 en heeft als onderscheidende feature extra snel geheugen lopend op 400MHz. Op deze snelheid is de bandbreedte tussen het geheugen en de core 1GB per seconde hoger dan bij de normale GeForce2, en 1,1GB per seconde lager dan bij de GeForce2 Ultra. Dit is ook heel erg duidelijk terug te zien in de benchmarks waar de kaart vooral in de hogere resoluties netjes tussen de normale en ultra GeForce2 in staat. Ook de prijs staat keurig tussen de twee kaarten in, met 400 dollar is hij ruwweg 100 dollar duurder als een normale GeForce2 en 100 dollar goedkoper als een GeForce2 Ultra. Voor de mensen die graag iets willen tussen een normale en ultra GeForce2 is deze kaart dus een prima keus, maar de vraag is alleen welke mensen zoiets willen:
At $399, the 3D Prophet II GTS Pro costs about $175 more than the least expensive GeForce2 GTS 32MB cards. For $120 more than the least expensive 64MB GeForce2 GTS and $100 less than a GeForce2 Ultra, you get a card that performs about half-way between these two types of cards. We figure that, if you're going to spend $400 for a card, you may as well spend $500 and get the ultimate in performance. If you cannot afford an Ultra and want something better than a GeForce2 GTS, the 3D Prophet II GTS Pro provides it, but you don't get great bang for the buck. :[/break]We managed to push the card up to a very impressive 220MHz core clock and 445MHz memory clock. This yielded a whopping 12% speed increase in Quake III Arena normal at 1600x1200, which is the largest overclocking performance gain we have seen in a while. That puts the 3D Prophet II GTS Pro, when overclocked, near GeForce2 Ultra speeds. Of course, not all cards overclock the same, and you may have worse luck than we did. Still, we were very impressed with the card's potential for overclocking.
