Als onderbouwing wordt gegeven dat medewerkers van Microsoft op zoek zijn naar een DX-9/DX-10 microcode engine. De Amerikaanse software-gigant zou voor dit opmerkelijke besluit hebben gekozen om niet afhankelijk te zijn van Intel of AMD voor x86-support. Net als bij de videochips speelt in dit besluit ook de factor geld weer een hoofdrol. Microsoft zou zijn processor op een zeer goedkope manier willen produceren:
