Planet Savage heeft twee Abit videokaartjes onder de loep genomen, te weten de Siluro T400 en T200. De T400 is gebaseerd op de nVidia's GeForce2 MX400-chip en draagt 64MB DDR SDRAM met zich mee, 64-bit breed. De T200 moet het doen met een MX200-videochip en 32MB SDRAM geheugen met een databus van 64-bit. Verder zijn beide kaartjes uitgevoerd in een mooi zwart PCB-kleurtje en komen ze standaard met TV-Out en een uitgebreide software bundel.

Uit de tests komt de weinig schokkende conclusie naar voren dat de prestaties vergelijkbaar zijn met die van collega-GeForce2 MX-kaarten. Echter, het bleek op geen enkele wijze mogelijk om de beestjes over te klokken, iets wat voor een tweaker natuurlijk doodzonde is. Hoogstwaarschijnlijk is dit puur te wijten aan de pre-productie status van de samples. Lees hieronder vast een stukkie:

First off, the video card would not overclock at all. I tried using the coolbits registry hack. The core/memory speeds weren't displayed so I tried updating the drivers and still no indication of the core/memory speeds. I tried guessing a value and ran the card a few MHz higher...instant BSOD which forced me to restart the system. Since this failed, the next option was powerstrip. Powerstrip reported the card to be running at 200MHz core and 333MHz memory. Overclocking was also not possible. I set the value of the card even to just a 1MHz increase and the card would revert to default speed all of the time. Another thing was that I only had 3 hours to benchmark 3 video cards so that would really prevent me from testing cards extensively.

[..] It's hard to judge a non-production board but still, Abit makes a pretty catchy card. Catchy in the looks department but I suppose their performance is just about the same since Abit follows the reference design and specifications very closely...something that isn't really expected of them. The name Abit still is an attention-drawer thanks to their highly successful overclocking motherboards and you can expect the Siluros to be of high quality even if not high performing. At any rate, you can't really go wrong with the GeForce2 MX but as much as possible, stay away from the MX200 and if possible, go with the original MX 32MB over the MX400 64MB. Your money on the original MX would seem to be utilized better than the MX400 64MB.

Afgelopen vrijdag heeft de Council of Europe een internationaal verdrag tegen 'cybercrime' goedgekeurd. Alle aangesloten landen (43) worden hierdoor verplicht tot het aanstellen van een minimum aan wetten, betreffende computercriminaliteit. Te denken is aan inbreken in netwerken, fraude, kinderporno of copyright-schending.

Hoewel de verdragsomschrijving in totaal 26 keer is overgedaan, zijn er toch nog een aantal mensen die zich er niet in kunnen vinden. Bepaalde ingewijden denken dat de bescherming van de burgers tegen de overheid op het spel komt te staan door het verdrag. De samenwerkende overheden zouden namelijk een te grote macht krijgen, wat privacy in de weg kan staan:

A committee on crimes for the Council of Europe signed off Friday on the final draft of a broad treaty that aims to help countries fight cybercrime, but which critics say sacrifices privacy protections.

However, the new international powers will come at the expense of protections for citizens against government abuse, said James X. Dempsey, deputy director of the tech-policy think tank Center for Democracy and Technology in Washington, D.C. "The treaty's framers started in the wrong place," he said. "For the first nineteen drafts, they kept it essentially a law-enforcement treaty. Only in the end did the privacy issues get attention, and they never got the attention they deserved."
