| Please note, I do not recommend overclocking a Celeron 300A to 450Mhz, the potential for corrupted data is unacceptable for business use. Just because the Celeron 300A I purchased seems to be rock-solid at 450Mhz does not mean that all of them will run at 450 - and if I do not recommend overclocking the chip, people can't complain that "you said it would run at 450Mhz!".

Will there be revolts in B&W when you don't do a good job guarding your villagers against the enemy, will there become "leaders" who try to undermine your society or will people try to convince others to leave with them and if so.
Yes definately - in fact what will happen is that, um, if you and I were two god on different sides of the landscape and there was a small tribe between us that we both want on our faith - it is gonna be just as historical as it was, if you look at the primitive tribes and early religions, including Christianity, there is a lot of swapping religions when one god seems to be better than another or more impressive than another.the little people are innocent to believe that that spell you do say over there, they will think "God that's bloody impressive isnt it" and they will start converting to your faith. So if you and I were competing over a village - you might send a missionary to help them out and to be really nice to them and they will start believing in you, and then you ignore them for a while and their leader comes up and asks you for help with food and stuff and you ignore them - they will start to lose faith in you because your ignoring them - then when I come along with my skeleton army and start beating up all the people they are gonna start to think "oh maybe this god is more powerful" and they will lose more and more faith until that tribe becomes mine rather than yours!

There is nothing to mention about this card that would surprise anyone. The Phoenix is a plain Banshee board that uses an orange PCB, the same coloured heatsink, and 16MBs of SGRAM. Okay, sure, the SGRAM isn’t the norm on the Banshees, but in use, the SGRAM doesn’t really give a performance boost. Luckily, the SGRAM doesn’t give a price boost either ;)
The trend of using reference designs seem to have the positive effect that a lot of cards share similar qualities, such as installation. The Phoenix was recognised by Win98’s Plug ‘n Pray, and immediately requested for the drivers. By the book, and the way I like it!

Een stukje uit Piet's verhaal: The full feature list is certainly impressive and bodes well for the newly christened Savage4. S3 have increased the maximum memory support to 32Mb which will certainly be plenty, even for ultra hardcore gamers. With the added bonus of S3TC, this could become an effective 160Mb texture memory (assuming 5:1 compression with all 32Mb used as texture storage). Of course in practice this will allow the use of much, much higher resolution texture maps which will allow unprecedented levels of detail in forthcoming games. The following shots were taken using high resolution textures running in the Unreal engine. They show off the potential of S3TC.

Dit keer staat er o.a. een review in van de Monster Sound MX300: The MonsterSound MX300 is an excellent card with the best 3D sound on the market. It’s precise 3D steering and the possibilities of wavetracing make this $99 card worthy in any hard-core gamer’s rig. However, the lack of complete gaming support, the lukewarm MIDI and the missing wave sound effects included with Creative Lab’s card causes me to continue to support the $99 SB Live! value edition as still the best bargain and still the official sound card of the Voodoo Review. If a company comes up with great MIDI, echo and reverb perimeters and complete 3d compatibility with all games please let me know and I’ll jump on it!

But when will Willamette appear? One rumour is along the lines that Intel will bring it forward from its end of Q4 in a bid to spanner AMD's K7, while another rumour says it is delayed.
We know one thing for sure. It is a "new implementation" of the IA-32 architecture. Does the world need one of these? Does that mean it is the P7, long ago promised by Intel? Or the P8, or maybe even the P9?
Here, in my little cave in Knaresborough, Yorkshire, my crystal ball is a tad cloudy after all these years being dead, but I see in the future not just Willamette, but cheap Alphas and the shared motherboards that they will have with AMD's K7 muddying Intel's waters.
We suspect even as we gaze that AMD has a list of processors that it is showing a number of vendors about the level of production it will have by year end.
First silicon is already rolling off Dresden's Fab 30, and we know that Dell is already OEMing Alpha filers for its customers. By year-end, AMD will have copper whopper .18 micron technology well under its belt and a string of OEMs to boot, according to the tea-leaves.
Eck Pfeiffer and his mob will be pushing very fast Alpha machines as fast as they can sell'em, and who will want Willamette when it arrives, given that K7 copper whoppers will be dirt cheap by then. Meer stuff staat hier.

Een paar dagen geleden had The Registe er ook een nieuwsbericht over, maar nu komen ze met nog meer (en beter) nieuws target=new> over een nog vettere prijsverlaging van Alpha CPU's: ast week we wrote that 21164A 533MHz Alpha CPUs cost $250 in quantity but an informed source has revealed that the price is nearer to $180 when ordered in volume.
[...]Details of Samsung's pricing for Alphas in this quarter are as follows, we can reveal. The 21164A CPU costs $250 for the 533MHz part, $684 for the 600MHz part, $1,080 for the 633MHz part, and $1,800 for the 667MHz part. The LX2 motherboard currently costs $680, the LX4 $1,000, the UX2 board $600 and a UX4 $750.
A SMB 264DP2-500 21264 with a 500MHz motheboard and a 2Mb daughtercard will cost $5,350, while a SMB 264DC2-500 21264 with 500MHz daughtercard only with 2Mb cache costs $2,643.
Our source said that the low water mark for the LX2 and 533MHz processor happened last year between April to June, when Samsung and DEC OEM had a price war. He claimed that DEC was dumping stock because of the upcoming merger with Compaq and the impending death of the Digital Semi group. Then, prices were as low as $700 for 100 piece orders.
The 800MHz processors are, however, likely to fall to below $250 when the .25 micron processor ramps up later this year, although the source said that price was by no means certain because the suppliers "charge what the market will bear".

"Besides the Office suite WordPerfect 2000, Corel will also release version 9 of the Windows graphics package Corel Draw on the German market in June. Corel should have this ready for Linux by the end of the year. Gamecenter heeft z'n Awards for 1998 uitgereikt. Choosing the best games of 1998 was both simple and difficult; at first we went hog-wild, nominating up to ten games in each category. Turns out gathering the nominees was the easy part. Then came the tough part when we had to trim each genre's nominees down to four titles. During some of those meetings we were sure there would be blood, what with Gamecenter's Thief contingent ready to drop some fifth-ward-Bs on the Half-Life group.
Nevertheless, it was a good year for gamers all around, and we even managed to find common ground and agree on the top games of the past year. You'll also be happy to know that GamerX has been busy compiling his special awards, including the Worst Game of the Year. So sit back and enjoy the Gamecenter Awards for 1998!

For a high-end drive, these specs are middle of the road, not the fastest they could be, and these specs directly affect the price of the drive. Let's start off with spindle rotation speed, clocking in at 7,200 RPM. For an Ultra2 SCSI drive, this is considered the slowest Ultra2 speed available, most Ultra2 lines have two models, a 7,200 RPM model and a 10,000 RPM model, consistently higher in price. 7,200 RPM models produce significantly less heat than 10k RPM models, but the drive produced quite a bit of heat nonetheless. After running the drive for only a few hours, it was hot to the touch, if you buy this drive I'd have to recommend spending an extra 20 bucks for a hard drive cooling kit.

Hier een stukkie over deze Dolby 5.1 speakerset: The subwoofer which comes with the Desktop Theatre 5.1 is the same one that is shipped with the 4-point surround set from Cambridge. Unfortunately this woofer isn't very high quality. The bass is too noisy and at higher volume you can hear the bass speaker popping. I've managed to get pretty good soundquality from it by putting the woofer on a piece of soft packaging material. This way it's decouppled from the ground and the sound quality is improved quite a bit.

The previous Friday, ATI had told me that new Rage128 drivers would be available in approximately two weeks and yet the Rage128 was available? I checked ATI for new drivers, and to my surprise, I found a new set of drivers A3A. I have since been given a new set of drivers labeled CD57.
These drivers have significant improvements in stability as I have experienced no crashes and have added 2D functionality such as gamma-correction for the Video Overlay. Of particular note was the implementation of 16-bit dithering in Direct3D. As noted by FiringSquad, the Rage128's 16-bit graphics quality was sub-par in the original beta drivers and these new drivers "corrected" the mottled effect by completely disabling dithering. Remarkably, the visual quality in 3Dmark '99 and Rage Dawning is pleasant although the textures in Shogo look terrible as one gets closer. Unusually, dithering is not a problem with the OpenGL ICD. What I would rather have is a "32-bit color override" for the Rage128 as the performance hit is minimal.

Erg spannend is de Victory II, of je zou opgewonden moeten raken van z'n SGRAm geheugen: The Victory II is pretty much your standard issue Banshee based video card. The only difference being the onboard SGRAM instead of the more commonly used SDRAM. The Banshee chip is cooled with a standard heatsink, making it a poor candidate for overclocking. The software bundle that includes Test Drive 5, which is pretty good considering the full game would cost you at least $30 anyway. However, Elsa should have included a better 3D accelerated game than Test Drive, which doesn't fully show off the Banshee's performance capabilities.

There is a slight performance decrease as far as frame rates are concerned within games that require high graphics performance. For all but the most basic of systems, the reduction in FPS is negligible and the trade off is well worth it.
First Person Shooters seem to benefit the most from the eyeSCREAM system, as the indoor and outdoor environments lend themselves well to stereo optics. Unreal is a blast, especially underwater as you swim through plants, which seem to literally protrude out of the screen. Half-Life seems tailor made for stereo, and you'll find yourself wanting to replay older titles just for the fun of it. Flightsims, racing and sports titles take on an amazing new aspect when running in stereo mode.
