Onder het motto 'cool processing' heeft VIA op de Computex een nieuwe generatie van de C3 processor aangekondigd. De C3 heeft een oppervlakte van slechts 52 vierkante millimeter en wordt geproduceerd op een 0,13 micron procédé van chip foundry TSMC. VIA is hiermee de eerste processor fabrikant die een 0,13 micron core in productie heeft. De C3 processor is voorzien van 128KB L1 en 64KB L2 cache. De kloksnelheid bedraagt 800MHz. Evenals zijn voorgangers is de C3 volledig compatible met Socket 370 moederborden die een FSB van 100 of 133MHz ondersteunen. VIA hoopt met de C3 core - voorheen bekend onder de codenaam Ezra - binnenkort de 1GHz te halen. VIA heeft tegelijkertijd met de release van de desktop C3 een mobiele variant aangekondigd:
Debuting at speeds ranging up to 800MHz, the mobile VIA C3™ processor is available in a choice of PGA, micro PGA, and EBGA package types that are fully compatible with the existing socket infrastructure to ensure easy integration and rapid time to market for OEMs and notebook vendors. An ultra low voltage version of the processor that reduces power consumption to less than one watt or ultra slim and mini notebook designs is also available.
