QNAP is bezig met de ontwikkeling van versie 4.2 van de firmware die op diverse modellen van zijn nas-apparaten staat en heeft daarvan een nieuwe bètaversie uitgebracht. Het eerste wat opvalt in versie 4.2 is de geheel vernieuwde interface. Daarnaast is de beveiliging verbeterd. Zo kan er nu een tweetrapsinlogprocedure worden ingesteld, via een met een app gegenereerde inlogcode. Verder kan er nu naar verschillende apparaten tegelijk media worden gestreamd en zijn er diverse verbeteringen aangebracht met betrekking tot virtualisatie en Storage Management. The HD Station lets you accomplish more by adding many useful apps and multitasking support. The revamped Photo Station provides an excellent browsing experience with gallery and management modes, a handy control menu bar, enhanced sharing mechanisms, and more. Video Station now allows you to directly search for subtitles online, import, and create customized video classifications. With user privilege controls, your friends can also enjoy the conveniences of Download Station with more protocols and service support.
Optimized Storage Management & Backup
QTS 4.2 provides optimized data management, SSD cache acceleration, and comprehensive backup solutions to improve business efficiency and performance. The revamped Storage Manager adds a handy snapshot tool, allowing you to systematically back up volume and LUN snapshots for future retrieval. Data migration is made easier with JBOD expansion enclosures requiring no network connectivity. Versioning control supports multiple backup versions and lets you roll back data to any point in time. In addition to backing up data to your NAS, you can also back up your NAS data to cloud services for an all-encompassing disaster recovery solution. QTS 4.2 also supports the vSphere web client plug-in, allowing you to centrally manage your NAS and VMs.

By activating 2-step verification, anyone who wants to log in to QTS will be required to provide a verification code generated by an authenticator app after entering their username and password. You can configure the AES 256-bit encryption for your shared folders in the privilege settings, enable L2TP/IPsec in VPN server settings directly in QTS with higher security, and receive alert notifications for your NAS with the Qmanager mobile app. More security options ensure that your data is always under your control.
