Het HyperTransport Consortium heeft gisteren de specificaties vrijgegeven die beschrijven hoe de HyperTransport bus werkt. De specificaties zijn voor iedereen te downloaden waardoor designers zonder rompslomp het 217 pagina’s tellende document kunnen bestuderen. Een licentie kan zonder royaltykosten verkregen worden door lid te worden van het consortium. Een stukje uit de press release:
"The publication of the HyperTransport I/O Link specification removes the administrative hassles chip and system designers typically encounter as they sort out their choices for next-generation interconnect technologies," commented Nathan Brookwood, principal analyst for Insight 64, a Saratoga, CA-based market research organization. "In days gone by, engineers often needed assistance from their legal departments to gain access to documents that defined new standards. This inevitably lengthened project schedules and sometimes limited the range of all available options. Now designers can get all they need for their evaluations with a few clicks at their favorite Web sites."
As the demands for greater speeds and bandwidth increase, OEMs are searching for ways to expand their offerings while reducing development costs. By making the HyperTransport specification public, HyperTransport Technology Consortium opens the lines of communication between OEMs and semiconductor designers, so they can work to deliver high-speed solutions using the HyperTransport technology for specific applications.
