Versie 22.2 van Linux Mint is uitgekomen. Linux Mint is een op Ubuntu Linux gebaseerde distributie en deze uitgave is een versie met extra lange ondersteuning die tot 2029 van updates zal worden voorzien. Voor de download kan er worden gekozen uit een Mate-, Cinnamon- of Xfce-desktopomgeving. Linux Mint 22.2 “Zara” Is Now Available, Here’s What’s NewThe wait is finally over as the Linux Mint team has published the final ISO images of the Linux Mint 22.2 “Zara” release, which are available for download from the official mirrors. Based on the Ubuntu 24.04 LTS (Noble Numbat) operating system series and powered by Linux kernel 6.14, which should boost hardware support, Linux Mint 22.2 “Zara” ships with the usual editions featuring the Cinnamon 6.4, Xfce 4.18, and MATE 1.26 desktop environments.
Highlights include fingerprint authentication for all supported editions via a new Fingwit app, accent color support for XDG Desktop Portal XApp, an improved Wayland session with updated input methods and keyboard layouts for the Cinnamon edition, improved libAdwaita compatibility, and theme updates.
Among other changes, the sticky notes feature received rounded corners and Wayland support, along with a new D-Bus method to reload the notes, the login screen received a blur effect in the panel and the dialog box, along with support for user avatars, and the Hypnotix app now supports Theater Mode and Borderless Mode.
In addition, this release updates the Software Manager’s welcome screen, improves the accuracy of the search results in the MATE application menu, adds a “Reboot” button to the Update Manager app, adds a new thumbnailer for cover art in .aiff audio files, and makes WebApp Manager’s webapp description editable.

Those of you running Linux Mint 22.1 “Xia” will have to wait a day or two for the Linux Mint team to open the upgrade path. Also, the Linux Mint team said that the new features implemented in Linux Mint 22.2 will soon be available to LMDE (Linux Mint Debian Edition) users with the upcoming LMDE 7 “Gigi” release.
