Drupal 7.0 RC 2 Released
We are proud to present to you the second release candidate of Drupal 7.0. Although there are still a few known issues that we are working on fixing, we are confident that our code is stable enough for wider testing by the community. Since the last release candidate two weeks ago, we have fixed upgrade path bugs, improved styling in the default "Bartik" theme, numerous bug fixes and improvements to strings, and fixed a critical bug preventing default Views from working. For the full list of changes, see the release notes.
The first alpha announcement provided a comprehensive list of high level improvements made since Drupal 6.x, so in this announcement we'll concentrate on how you can help ensure that Drupal 7 is released as soon as possible and is as rock solid as the previous Drupal releases that you've grown to love!
There are a number of modules already ported to Drupal 7 for your testing pleasure. You can keep tabs on whether or not your site is ready for Drupal 7 by using the Upgrade Status module. If you are a translator, now is the time to start working on your translations. If you are a module or theme maintainer, now is the time to start working on the update to Drupal 7!
Drupal 6.20 released
Drupal 6.20, a maintenance release fixing issues reported through the bug tracking system, is now available for download. There are no security fixes in this release. Upgrading your existing Drupal 6 sites is recommended.
Highlights of changes in this release include settings form inheritance for subthemes, syslog identity configuration support, better update support from Drupal 5, support for the tel: protocol, several fixes to the node translation system, fixes for CSS aggregation with non UTF-8 characters, support for specifying database collation, more complete coverage of HTML entities in entity decoding and various documentation fixes and other smaller bugfixes. In total almost 50 patches were committed to improve Drupal 6. For more information about the Drupal 6.x release series, consult the Drupal 6.0 release announcement
Note that Drupal 5 will no longer be maintained when Drupal 7 is released. Upgrading to Drupal 6 is recommended. The latest Drupal 7 development version is Drupal 7 RC2.
The full list of changes between the 6.19 and 6.20 releases can be found by reading the 6.20 release notes. A complete list of all bug fixes in the stable DRUPAL-6 branch can be found at http://drupal.org/project/cvs/3060/?branch=DRUPAL-6.
Given enough bug fixes (not just bug reports) more maintenance releases will be made available.
The robots.txt file was changed in this release to allow for uploaded files in /sites/ to be indexed by search engines. See http://drupal.org/node/494462 for more information. The release did not change the .htaccess and (default.)settings.php files however, so you can keep your existing files intact, if you have modifications in them.
