Software-update: LibreOffice 3.3 RC1

Met de breuk tussen Oracle en de opensourcecommunity die hecht betrokken was bij OpenOffice.org is het kantoorpakket geforkt waarmee LibreOffice het levenslicht zag. Het ontwikkelteam heeft de eerste release candidate van versie 3.3 de deur uitgedaan met de volgende opmerkingen:

This release candidate is not intended for production use!

There are a number of known issues being worked on:

• The Windows build is an International build - you can choose the user interface language that is suitable for you. The help content is not included. We are working on the online version. Alternatively, it will be possible to install it separately.
• The Linux and MacOSX builds are English builds with the possibility to install language packs. Please browse the archives to get the language pack you need for your platform.
• The LibreOffice branding and renaming is new and work in progress. You may still see old graphics, icons or websites. So please bear with us. This also applies to the BrOffice.org branding - applicable in Brazil.
• Filters for the legacy StarOffice binary formats may be missing.
• More detailed release notes are available in our wiki.

Mja..... ik heb nu wel wat andere mensen al langer rapporteren: De layout wordt verkl**t in ms office 2010, maar ik denk eerder dat dat aan MS ligt.

nee, dat niet. Maar er zijn wel een heleboel patches meegenomen die al jaren lang op 't internet rondzwierven maar waarvan Sun geen zin had om ze toe te voegen aan OO.o (al was 't maar omdat ze nog een commerciele variant op OO.o hadden). In die zin heeft LO 3.3 een boel features die OO.o 3.3 niet heeft.

Kijk, DAT is dus goed om even te weten. Laten we hopen dat het community-proces van LIbreOffice nog een stukje soepeler verloopt.

hopelijk wordt er een keer iets gedaan aan optimalisatie sinds de laatste openoffice. daar kun je in de Calc meer dan ~65k regels hebben. zo nu en dan heb ik dat ook echt nodig, alleen wordt het wel compleet ondoenlijk traag als je zo ver gaat.
voor een deel natuurlijk wel logisch dat het trager wordt, maar hoeveel trager het feitelijk wordt is echt belachelijk.

De eerstvolgende Oo.org ondersteunt inderdaad meer rijen in Calc. Ik weet niet zeker of dat nu dus ook in de eerste LibreOffice komt.

Daar mag je wel van uitgaan. In principe worden alle verbeteringen die aan oo.o doorgevoerd worden ook in lo doorgevoerd.

Go-oo joins forces with LibreOffice

Go-oo shares much of its goals and philosophy with The Document Foundation's LibreOffice project, we're therefore supporting LibreOffice since it's inception, and are in the process of merging most of our patches over, as well as migrating to Document Foundation infrastructure. Going forward, the Go-oo project will be discontinued in favor of LibreOffice.

Q: What does this announcement mean to other derivatives of OpenOffice.org?

A: We want The Document Foundation to be open to code contributions from as many people as possible. We are delighted to announce that the enhancements produced by RedHat and the Go-OOo team will be merged into LibreOffice, effective immediately. We hope that others will follow suit.

Ah fijn! Ik heb de eerste paar Beta's al gedraaid bij gebrek aan alternatief voor OpenOffice. Nu nog een goede beschikbaarheid in Universe of een PPA dan zou het helemaal prima zijn.

Aangezien Ubuntu geheel overstapt, lijkt het mij niet ingewikkeld deze versie te backporten naar de oudere Ubuntu's.

Een ppa met daarin de files voor lucid en nieuwer zou fijn zijn ja. Dit is ook de reden dat ik de vorige bètas niet geprobeerd heb, te veel gedoe om te installeren.
Ik hoop verder dat alle plugins goed blijven werken, dingen als zotero wil ik echt niet moeten missen.

De bestanden extracten in /opt is teveel werk?

Bij mij werkte emailen vanuit openoffice/libreoffice naar Windows Live Mail 2011 niet meer.
Exact dezelfde foutmelding is de vorige keer toen het Windows Live Mail 2010 werd ... ( en na een update van ooo weg was )

Blijkbaar nog steeds exact dezelfde verkeerde afhandeling van mapi/mailto calls in de software zitten ...

Is er al een portable versie van beschikbaar? portableapps.com heeft voorlopig enkel OpenOffice versies liggen.
