Koen Crijns van Hardwareinfo.net heeft de tijd genomen om een vergelijking te schrijven tussen 6 mamaplankjes uitgerust met de KX133 chipset, compleet met benchmarks en een handige tabel waar de features van alle planken naast elkaar staan. Heel verassend *kuch* kwam hij tot de conclusie de Abit KA7 en de Asus K7V de twee beste plankjes zijn die je op de moment kan vinden voor je Athlon :

Gelukkig mag ik ook bij deze moederborden vergelijkingstest weer concluderen dat er geen enkel echt slecht moederbord tussen zat en dat de KX133 chipset op dit moment het meest interessante AMD Athlon platform is.

Er zijn twee moederborden die met kop en schouders boven de andere moederborden uitstaken. Beide borden zijn een Hardwareinfo.net Award absoluut waard.

Op de tweede plaats komt de ASUS K7V, onder andere door de perfecte stabiliteit, zeer hoge performance en vele mogelijkheden. Ondanks de rommelige lay-out is de K7V toch een zeer verzorgd en perfect functionerend product. Absoluut een aanrader en goed voor een Hardwareinfo.net Silver Award!

De Hardwareinfo.net Gold Award gaat naar het enige moederbord waar ik niets op aan te merken had: de ABIT KA7. Het ABIT moederbord werkt gewoonweg perfect en op pagina 3 van dit artikel is te lezen dat ABIT heel wat moeite in het ontwerp van dit moederbord heeft gestoken. Het bord biedt zeer veel unieke features. De ABIT KA7 heeft de Hardwareinfo.net Gold Award zeker verdiend!

Security enthusiasts Bennett Haselton and Jamie McCarthy demonstrated how a simple substitution in Web addresses (URLs) can foil IE's security checks, exposing the cookie files that Web sites place on visitors' computers. Cookies authenticate people's identities when they return to Web sites and store data about visitors' activities and purchases.

Microsoft noted that the hole doesn't let an attacker "inventory" the visitor's cookies, but only targets specific ones from certain sites. The company also said that a victim would have to visit a malicious Web site.

Still, Microsoft acknowledged that the hole leaves room for plenty of trouble.

"The vulnerability could allow a malicious Web site to read, change or delete cookies that belong to another Web site," Microsoft said in a statement. "We expect to deliver the patch shortly. A security bulletin will be published...to discuss the issue and advise customers how to obtain and apply the patch."

The hole lends credence to the fears of privacy advocates, who say the technology and business of collecting Web surfers' private information--such as when and where they surf and which books and other items they purchase--is prone to abuse and mishap.

Bij Extreme Hardware is een artikel te vinden over FSAA. Er komt natuurlijk weer een zooi screenshots voorbij en er wordt weer eens gezegd dat FSAA best mooi is op lage resoluties, maar op hoge resoluties een te grote performance hit geeft:

Full Screen Anti-Aliasing is undoubtedly a great feature to have, but it shouldn’t be the main buying concern for any serious gamer. While it can noticeably improve image quality, it often makes little difference in fast-paced gameplay, and playing at a higher resolution (if one’s monitor allows it) is preferable. On the other hand, FSAA is advantageous to the average gamer who isn't as concerned with a high fps rate as much as a hardcore gamer. Also, owners of smaller monitors should be on the lookout for FSAA, since it should improve image quality without a significant performance loss in almost all gaming solutions at low resolutions.
