Op eWeek is te lezen dat Turbolinux de tak die zich bezighoudt met de ontwikkeling en verkoop van de gelijknamige distributie heeft verkocht aan het Japanse Software Research Associates. Turbolinux zal zich in de toekomst gaan richten op de ontwikkeling van software voor het opensource besturingssysteem. De eerste stap in deze richting heeft het bedrijf al gezet met de introductie van PowerCockpit. Dit is een softwarepakket waarmee de installatie en beheer van Linux servers vereenvoudigd kan worden.
Na de overname van SRA zal het hoofdkantoor van Turbolinux worden gevestigd in Japan. Het huidige hoofdkantoor, gevestigd in Amerika, bood werk aan 45 man. Hiervan zullen er slechts 10 kunnen blijven. Turbolinux was ook één van de participanten in het UnitedLinux initiatief. De deelname aan dit project zal SRA ongewijzigd blijven voortzetten:
Turbolinux Inc., which provides Linux operating environments and multi-platform server provisioning and management products, has sold its Linux software business to Japanese software group Software Research Associates Inc. for an undisclosed amount.
Turbolinux's global Linux software business will become a division of SRA and be headquartered in Tokyo at Turbolinux's former Japan division, spokesman Dino Brusco told eWEEK. SRA will inherit the Turbolinux company name and product brand.
