With the Radeon ATI has done the best thing they've done in years: They've developed a feature-rich product which performs very well. The Radeon is clearly the best chipset when it comes to supported features, although we have to wait for DirectX 8 to fully take advantage of some of them.
As far as performance is concerned, in 16 bit the GeForce 2 GTS is always faster than the Radeon, and in 32 bits the Radeon can only show advantage in the highest resolutions. But the gaps are small, and the Radeon was tested with immature drivers. And drivers might become the biggest problem for the Radeon: ATI doesn't exactly have a reputation for stable and frequently updated drivers. If ATI wants the Radeon to become widely successful they should really focus on good driver support for this very interesting and well performing chip. For now, the Radeon look like a very good alternative for the GeForce 2 GTS
