The AMD Duron 700 is an excellent value-level processor, easily the best in its class when compared to the Celeron or any other low-end CPUs. But it's not enough of a performer to ride with the big dogs in the high performance segment, including the Athlon Thunderbird or Intel Pentium III lines at the same clock speed.
In fact, a true blue Athlon Thunderbird 700 CPU can be purchased for as little as $159 currently, which is only $9 more than the Duron 700 featured in today's grudge match. We'd recommend that path for those looking at an AMD solution for their PC, otherwise the more expensive P3-700 is the way to go with its $240 price tag if the i815e platform is your cup of tea.
For the record, the Duron finished this test with a 1-6-0 record in the benchmarks (1 win, 6 losses, and 0 ties) which is a big difference versus its dominant 6-0-1 win over the glass-jawed Celeron 700 last week.
No matter if you choose the Duron 700, Athlon T-Bird 700, or Pentium III 700, the end result is a good quality CPU for a gaming platform.
