Asus heeft nieuwe firmware voor de RT-AC87U beschikbaar gesteld. Deze dualband-router kan clients zowel bedraad als draadloos van netwerktoegang voorzien. Hij heeft een stevig prijskaartje, maar daar staan een berg features en goede prestaties tegenover. Verder zijn er twee usb-poorten aanwezig, waarvan een usb 3.0, zodat een printer of externe opslag over het netwerk kan worden gedeeld. De nieuwe firmware is iets meer dan 43MB groot en na afloop is het raadzaam om de resetknop even vijf seconden ingedrukt te houden.
