On one hand I really dislike this board. The reasons being should be very evident. AGP8X that we cannot make work and OCing that basically nonexistent unless you have a 100MHz bus Pentium 4 and then still the board could be very limiting. I have a good idea that the AGP8X issues will be worked out as the entire technology from a retail implementation standpoint is still very immature at this time, so we are very much looking at growing pains.[...]
On other hand, the ABIT SR7-8X performed flawlessly using DDR333 and a VisionTek Ti4600 VidCard. The SR7 also turned in extremely impressive scores besting some of the other top system platforms out there. So while there are some negatives out there, there are certainly some big positives. With the low retail price of this board I can certainly suggest that small system integrators and the budget gamer look into it. I am pretty certain the AGP8X thing will work itself out, but no one needs and AGP8X card at the moment anyway.
If you are what we call an "enthusiast", this board is not for you as trying to OC your Pentium 4 will likely leave you high and dry. If you are looking to spend $100 on a board that will offer up AGP8X (soon), USB 2.0, while giving great performance using DDR333 I say go for it. One thing to keep in mind though is that there will be many other companies that will have a SiS 648 offering in the future and many of those will be focused on price as well so it might behoove you to wait and see what happens.
