CHIP CONTENDER AMD has now alerted its distributors and dealers that it will lower prices on its microprocessors again on the 30th of April.
In a letter to its channel, the firm flagged the move with the headline: "AMD Processors at new Competitive Prices" and added these prices would be "available from AMD authorized distributors on 30th April 2001."
[...] Last Monday, Intel introduced its 1.7GHz Pentium 4 at $352, precipitating a bitter price clash. Intel is making the unprecedented step of cutting prices on its flagship processors twice in April.
But AMD is keeping the info pretty close to its chest right now. The notice to its disties and dealers only said "watch this space". There will be blood on the carpet at Intel by June, we reckon. In the US, AMD Zone is telling its readers that it is hearing news of upcoming price cuts, too.
