Het team van het VideoLAN-project heeft versie 0.7.2 van hun mediaplayer uitgebracht. VLC is een open source, crossplatform mediaspeler die 'out of the box' ondersteuning voor MPEG1-, MPEG2-, MPEG4-, DivX- en XviD-videobestanden heeft. Ook kunnen er verschillende audioformaten worden gespeeld, zoals mp3 en Ogg Vorbis. De looks van het programma kunnen worden veranderd met behulp van skins. De developers lieten het volgende changelog achter:

[break]Voor het Windows-platform is er een installer en een zipfile te downloaden, voor MacOS X kunnen hier de binaries worden opgehaald. Op de website staan nog geen binaries of packages voor mensen die Linux, Solaris of een BSD-variant gebruiken. Wel kan de source code worden gedownload, om met behulp van deze benodigde libraries te worden gecompileerd.
