Synology heeft de final release van versie 5.2 van Disk Station Manager uitgebracht. Synology DSM is de beheersoftware die op diverse nas-producten van het bedrijf draait. De Disk, Cube en Rack Stations bieden meer dan alleen extra opslagruimte. Zo kunnen ook back-ups van alle clients op het netwerk worden gemaakt en kunnen bestanden via http, ftp, bittorrent, usenet en emule worden gedownload, zodat bijvoorbeeld energiegulzige pc's 's nachts uit kunnen, terwijl de download gewoon binnenkomt. Verder kunnen via de ingebouwde iTunes-server audio- en videobestanden over het netwerk worden gestreamd, kan met behulp van php en MySQL een dynamische website worden gehost en kan het apparaat als printserver fungeren.
Om versie 5.2 te kunnen installeren zal minimaal versie 5.0 aanwezig moeten zijn. Verder is het uitsluitend geschikt voor de nas-modellen die eindigen op 10 of hoger. In versie 5.2 treffen we onder meer ondersteuning voor smb3 aan, kan File Station nu ook diverse cloud opslagdiensten aanspreken en zijn met name de backup-functionaliteit, Cloud Station en Photo Station flink verbeterd. What’s New in DSM 5.2
Single Sign-OnWindows File Sharing
- You can register multiple DSM accounts and access them using one set of credentials. After initial login, linked DSM accounts will automatically log in to avoid credential re-authentication.
Backup and Replication
- Added SMB3 and end-to end data encryption support.
iSCSI LUN Snapshots
- Added support for file-level restore. You can browse the files of each multi-version backup and restore single files easily.
- You can set up backup rotation to recycle old backup versions automatically in multi-version backup tasks.

Link Aggregation
- You can take iSCSI snapshots more frequently, up to every five minutes.

File Station
- SSD cache now has a smaller memory footprint, consuming 90% less memory than DSM 5.1 for newly created SSD caches.
QuickConnect
- You can manage and transfer files to popular public cloud services such as Dropbox, Box, Google Drive, and OneDrive.
- The built-in photo viewer now supports full-screen mode.
- You can drag and drop files between two browsers.
- You can set the number of times a shared link can be accessed.
- Added playlist support for the built-in audio player.
- You can use the built-in mail client to send shared links.
Misc
- Enhanced stability.
- DSM will automatically add port forwarding rules required by QuickConnect services on your compatible UPnP router, saving your time on network configuration.
- You can customize the security level of SSH connections by selecting which encryption algorithm(s) to use.
- Added more flexible port forwarding rules, including assigning random port numbers, and customized port settings.
- You can set usage quotas for different groups. The group usage quota is automatically applied when a user is added to the group.

- Added to-do list feature. You can add tasks to notes or add them independently to the to-do list.
- Manage tasks by specifying a priority, due date, and reminder.
- Synology Web Clipper is now available on the Chrome Web Store. You can clip web content directly to Note Station.
