Dealers and distributors have come to the conclusion that Rambus, as a memory platform, is hardly worth pursuing, given that yields have fallen from below 25 per cent to under 10 per cent.[...] A major distributor of a half a billion dollar Japanese corporation said that motherboard manufacturers, including Tyan, have dumped the RIMM solution in favour of synchronous DRAM.
He said: "Tyan dropped it [Direct Rambus] because of pricing issues. RIMM memory is still between three or four times the price of synchronous memory."
Mackenzie went further. He said: "Rambus is dead. The yields are because Intel is trying to force through the technology."
