Rambus, Inc. has filed a lawsuit against Hitachi regarding several patents the company made years ago. Here's an interesting quote: "We are in negotiations with companies that use this technology, but it would be inappropriate to comment further on those negotiations, since they are confidential. Indeed, our patents cover fundamental aspects of synchronous memories. Other companies (besides Hitachi) will want to license this IP as well for non-Rambus products," Kanadjian said. Essentially, Rambus is suing Hitachi for making SDRAM, as silly as it sounds. The Rambus patents Hitachi has apparently violated include:I shake my head when I look at these, but it's because I keep forgetting that you can patent anything...Bell Labs must be kicking itself for not patenting the transistor....
