The U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) has voted to institute an investigation of certain synchronous dynamic random access memory devices, microprocessors, and products containing same. The products at issue in this investigation are SDRAM devices and microprocessor chips that are used in computers and other electronic products, including some video game consoles. The investigation is based on a complaint filed by Rambus, Inc., of Mountain View, CA, on March 23, 2000, and supplemented on April 4, 2000, and April 12, 2000. The complaint, as supplemented, alleges violations of section 337 of the Tariff Act of 1930 in the importation into the United States, the sale for importation, and the sale within the United States after importation of certain SDRAMs, microprocessors, and products containing same that infringe patents owned by Rambus, Inc. In its complaint, Rambus requests that the ITC issue a permanent exclusion order and a permanent cease and desist order.
