Op Planet Internet is een bericht te lezen waar in staat dat Google haar nieuwsdienst heeft uitgebreid en verbeterd. Deze heeft lange tijd in beta gedraaid en indexeert nieuws uit meer dan 4.000 bronnen en zet deze per onderwerp op de site. Het is nu duidelijk te zien in hoeverre de berichten van hetzelfde onderwerp van elkaar verschillen. Het zoeken op onderwerp gebeurt door middel van een script, dat ervoor zorgt dat alles automagisch in de juiste categorie gezet wordt. Om te voorkomen dat een zoekopdracht teveel informatie oplevert of oud nieuws aanlevert, wordt er alleen gezocht in items van de laatste dertig dagen:
