OCWorkbench heeft vandaag een review geplaatst van het VIA KT266A plankje van MSI, de K7T266 Pro2. Het bord heeft een 1/5/1 AGP/PCI/CNR layout en beschikt over een Promise 20265R onboard RAID en een USB 2.0 controller (alleen bij Pro2-RU versie). Daarnaast bevat het AMI BIOS al de belangrijke overklokopties, en komt het bord optioneel met een gratis Smartkey.
Om de prestaties te meten werd de K7T266 Pro2 tegenover de Abit KG7-RAID (AMD 760), ECS K7S5A (SiS 735) en een ALi MAGiK1 B-Stepping bord gezet. De benchmarks toonden aan dat hij qua prestaties prima mee kan komen met de rest, behalve onder Bapco Sysmark2000 waar zijn scores een fractie lager eindigden. De conclusie luidt dan ook als volgt:
MSI K7T266Pro2-RU is an innovative product. This board is probably the first to support the USB 2.0 compliant USB devices. The system has pretty good performance but it can be seen that it is optimised for 3D gaming. In terms of Content and Business applications, it is not as good unless 1T command is turned off.
The optional Smartkey which comes free is an add on feature which I find it very useful. It definitely helps to deter unauthorised users from using my system.
The D-LED definitely helps in the installation of the system. I was able to detect that my system was not functioning correctly as the RAM was not inserted all the way into the slot. This board also has all the facilities for the overclockers. Due to the Crucial RAM I used, the maximum i could go is 150Mhz FSB at max ram timings, 166 mhz is a no go for me. We will update the review once we get newer BIOSes.
Documentation is well written and since every settings can be done all within BIOS, it is very easy to setup. Overall, the system is stable and fast but needs more BIOS releases to unleash the performance further. I see great potential in this board if it's priced very competitively as it is feature rich and well packaged for the consumer market.
