Roadmaps seen staff at The Inquirer have shown that Intel is indeed determined to keep the pressure on AMD on prices.
However, it will create a window of opportunity for itself by launching its new 1.8GHz P4 at $562, while it will seek to seed the lower end of the market by pricing the 1.6GHz Pentium 4 at a measly $294.
When it next introduces a desktop Pentium 4, that will be the 2GHz version and it will price that product at $562, while introducing the 1.9GHz Pentium 4 at $455.
By then, Intel will have practically completed its movement from the Pentium III to the Pentium 4, with most speed revs of the latter cheaper than the former.
