Is it too little too late? The PX-W1210TA first hit the shelves about eight months ago. While I'm sure Plextor could have licensed someone else's technology and put a SCSI drive on the market at the same time, they instead took the time to develop and tweak their own drive. I'm glad they did because even after eight months the PX-W1210TS still stands out. On top of that the 12x CD-RW market is still going strong. While 16x drives are here, companies are still announcing new and improved 12x products. Plextor has just recently announced their new ATAPI 16x drive, the PX-W1610TA, but still has not made any plans to sell a 16x SCSI drive public. Until they do the PX-W1210TS is not only CDRLabs' SCSI king its also Plextor's top of the line SCSI drive.
If you are looking for a SCSI drive that performs like a champ, is reliable and compatible with all the popular software, this is your drive. Currently you can find the drive for around $255-$275 at Hyper Microsystems depending on the bundle. I have dealt with Hyper Microsystems as both a customer and with CDRLabs and I have to say they are a great company. It's always nice to know there is someone there to answer the phone and reply back to your emails. Tell them CDRLabs sent you.Highs:
- Excellent CD-ROM data transfer performance.
- Excellent DAE scores - high speed and quality to boot!
- Excellent software support - works great with CloneCD.
Lows:
- The same lackluster software package has not changed in years. We want to see something other than Easy CD Creator!
- ASPI missing from installer.
- Manual can be difficult if this is your first time with SCSI hardware.
