We were told that SMP capability of the the current CPU's was only negatively affected by the current Northbridge design, not the cpu design. The current north bridge limits SMP to two processors per Northbridge at the moment. The only CPU core redesigns going on are to reduce power consumption of the Athlon core, specifically for the Palomino and the Mustang. With the current design a Mustang enabled with 2megs of L2 cache would require a heatsink weighing in at 1000grams, and being 8 or 9 inches tall, they showed us a picture of just such a heatsink for laughs. I forgot to mention it to JC, FYI the K6-2 is officially dead, they will cease accepting orders for it on October 1st, and will cease all shipments by October 22nd.
